Smoke2Live420 asks a good question. Last time I checked, voting for the lesser of two evils was still a vote for evil.

So why don't people vote with their minds and hearts whether the candidate "can" win or not? If the main candidates aren't to your liking, why not "throw your vote away" on a candidate you agree with? So out of a list of 20 number 19 gets in instead of 20? that seems more like throwing your vote away to me.

The more folks start voting independent, the better the US will become through a larger diversity of opinion. The more we feed into this wretchedly disgusting two-party monstrosity we let into our lives, the worse our choices of candidates will become so let's find a candidate we agree with the most and vote for that candidate - mainstream or not.

That's how it is supposed to work - not throwing a vote away for the guy (or gal) you think has a shot and you dislike the least.

my two cents...
Dear Mr. 468 The reason I believe throwing your vote away on a none electable candidate is a dumb move is; in a close race, every vote counts. If you vote for say Paul and he gets 300,000 votes and the candidate you hate wins by 290,000 votes, those 300,00 votes have just decided the election. The actual ratio may not be exact but you should see that in such a race as the Bush-Gore race, those 300,000 votes decided the race. I'll admit that no candidate is perfect and even with all the internet hype about Paul, there were some little known facts that would have helped the corporations and weakened the workers rights and made the middle class a thing of the past. Everyone has there reasons for who they vote for, and that is all well and good. Reasoning that the person that you think is the worst candidate may get elected if you vote for the one you really want and throw your vote away, may be the most intelligent thing you can do, Vote Obama-08

I don't agree with most of the things Obama says. Neither do I agree with McCain. So I shouldn't vote?

you can call me email :)

Hey, I don't know, flip a coin. I'm sure if you looked at both candidates you could figure out which one was more on your wavelength, Just make a choice, because voting for Paul or Nader is a lost cause, and yes you can always refuse to vote. I did for thirty years, and look what it got me, Bush. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to vote, just trying to explain the value of your vote to the outcome.

Shut. the. fuck. up!
I cant believe your telling people not to vote for ron paul or nader because of the outcome that all the votes could of went to obama or mcains or w/e. There running for president for a rEason just like the rest of them. Why would anyone refuse to vote because you did for 30 years?
Just shut the fuck up . your not god. you dont have any right to tell anyone to not vote for ron or nader or to just refuse to vote. god id love to knock your teeth out old man

What I'm saying is as long as we do what you suggest - that is vote for the lesser of two evils that will remain the choice we have to make. Whereas if we vote our conscious, win or lose, we will be building an independent base of voters for the future when independent candidates will have a shot at winning and we will have voted for the person we most want to win.

Having said that, if a 3rd party candidate is the one you want but there is a mainstream candidate that you can support too - then voting for the one most likely to win does indeed make more sense.

Either that or I am used to voting for the candidates who lose :(

Being mean or coarse in our language is a guaranteed way to lose the argument. Remain civil and the conversation continues and progress is made otherwise the thread will revert back to name-calling and no one will learn a thing.

I know others have resorted to nastiness but it is better to rise above it. And trust me I know it is a lot easier to give this advice than heed it.

I really do like Ron Paul, I agree with a lot of his policies, and I do like how he cuts through the bullshit. However, I have come to terms with the fact that he will not be elected. On the other hand though, I do feel that this election is paving the way for more VIABLE "independent" candidates in the future.

yeah i made this thread after all the comments in the Ralph nader one i made. I just had to ask because i really dont know why people are like that..sometimes i feel like im the only sane one on this forum. im not bashing other peoples votes .. im not saying you guys should just vote for ron paul because obama is muslim and hilary is a girl. So just let all the votes go to ron. im just tryin to get people to realize who is telling the truth and whos not. its up to them who they want to pick but i just want them too just see what hes about instead of getting on him and sayin he wont win.
