My custom made 280 watt (actual power draw) cost me at todays exchange rate $1,268 USD. So that works out at approx £4.53 per watt drawn.

question for all of you since i'm planning a grow in a cabinet and using led so heat isn't an issue i won't need much ventilation but smell control is my main concern, so i'm considering a new model bathroom exhaust fan to vent. somewhere between 50 and 110 rating. they run at .5 to .7 scone so very quiet and i know a 4 or 6" inline will be loud in my cab. will those have enough power to pull thru a filter?

so lets do some math here for ledbudguy, 5 days of drying = 27 ounces. (I know it was a bit more but I forgot the rest) we'll say that he even loses an ounce and a half to addition cure drying and excess stem removal. 25.5 ounces, a ounce per plant, however when you look at it from a electrical efficiency standpoint 721.65 grams. He had 5 of the 170W models. 600W total draw. 721.65/600= 1.20 g/watt. Not bad at all. Each light is pushing 144 grams. If he were to go head to head with a 600W HPS I would doubt the grower using the HID would yield anywhere around a pound and 2/3s.

We'll say he even sold it. Ill go as far as proposing that even if all that was sold at once, at 200 bucks an ounce (factor in bulk pricing) he would theoretically have made 5400. The LED's set him back 2000, we'll call in another 1000 for electricity, CO2, soil, nutrients combined. He walks away with 2400 even, while paying off his total investment on his first crop from it. All for less than a Kilowatt per hour. Sounds pretty nice if you ask me.

Lets not forget that those clones were pure shit, covered in mites too if I am not mistaken (or a def), and he tossed them on a short veg after they stabilized. With optimal growing circumstances I bet he could have pulled a shit load more.

if you buy the blackstars through ebay from gothem hydro will they still give you any type of warrenty??? Thinking of getting a blackstar but if no warrenty I might have to look elsewhere. I can't afford to burn $500 worth of lights and not be able to fall back on a warrenty. I'm too broke for that. So if anyone has any info I would love to hear it.

Thanks in advance

blackstar has a one year warranty I beleive thats what victor told me
Only 1 year? So much for superior american manufacturing guarantees... :( I wouldn't get any LED that didn't come with at least 3 years. These lights sure as hell better last at least a year, and they should last a lot closer to 5

Not bad. I have about 800 bucks to put towards a light. That includes tax and shipping. And I'm wanting to fill a 2x3x6.5 closet space. I was thinking of getting two blackstars for the cross lighting because i was going to try and pack as many as i can in there (plants). Or should i try to get one high powered one and end up with no cross lighting. Example: 2 blackstars or one 357magnum or one ISIS-FX1. This is the most nerve racking decision I've made in a long time. I'm effin sweating.

2x3 is a pretty small space to be cramming more than 1 panel in. I would go with a single higher power unit from a good company. Don't let anyone BS you about the power or coverage area of their lights. 300-400w of actual LED (not a '400w' light but a light that actually draw 300-400w from the wall socket) would be the most you should need for that space. Any good LED light that actually draws a total of 300-400w should be good for that space. Be sure the units actually draw that much though, most companies mislead and give you the sum total of the LEDs and not how much they actually draw (100 3w LEDs = 300w BUT 100 3w LEDS would only actually be running on maybe 150w because their tech isn't developed enough to run 3w LEDs at much more than half power)

3w LEDs usually run about 1.5w
2w LEDS usualy run about 1.5w-1.75w

It gets a bit tricky when you have 3w LEDS that are simply three 1w LEDS crammed under the same lense

@jdizzle

Thanks for the reply. I understand that they don't run full power. I was hoping for an equivalant to 600hps and be able to cram all that light in that space and train and LST the plant to hell and see where that goes. Thinking 2-6 girls depending on the stature of growth they produce. Mystery plants unknown origins.

Thanks for the info and happy growin. Back to do a bit more research.

Get a 500W (275W draw) Blackstar. I have one, it rocks. Its only $549. Get a bigger space before you dump all that money into one light. Its suggested coverage is 3x4, so you should have the penetration and coverage you need to max that out. Call up Gotham and he'll probably cut you a deal, like 20 bucks off, or free shipping, or something.

Well the room is really 4x2.5x7 i fianlly measured. But i need a square foot or two for fan and intakeducting and i have a box with the nutes and stuff so it can't get too much bigger.
http://www.blackdogled.com/products.html would this be good for a space like mine? the BD220 model for $649
They say it "draws over 200w" well if they are not willing to say then it probably isn't by much. $650 for '200w' is a lot and it even says something about certain wavelengths not available in that model. It also looks like they are making BS claims such as their over 400w light (how much over 400?) "can easily replace any 1000 Watt MH or HPS light." I wouldn't believe that either

You could get a Spectra that actually draws 240w for $600 or less. Should be as good or better than their 'over 200w' unit. I'm sure other people will chime in with other options. You could also get 3 kessils for that kind of money

I was just looking at that one right now.(Spectra) I had forgotten about that one. The only thing that makes me cautious when it comes to kessils is in my narrow space
i wouldn't be able to get the right mix of light. Unless i get all purple, but i would like to get the fullest spectrum then supplement for bloom or veg. And they say to keep them 1 foot apart.

But dosen't the spectra have the 3 watt/3 chip LED's. Would that make it just a bunch of 1w leds?? I just noticed that. I need some penetration too. Looking to harvest 2.5 foot tall plants

Hey guys, for my 1st grow I got a blackstar 240W last october and have completed one grow with it. Im in the process of flowering several plants right now using a 240W and a 500W. Here are some pics.

The new 2011 spectras (seen here when the site is working http://www.420magazine.com/forums/journals-progress/132192-irish-boys-480w-720w-grow-led-hydro-land-clovers-49.html ) use a mix of single chip 3w lights and single chip 2w lights. I'm not certain but I believe the majority are 3w lights and those that are not best available in 3w are 2w. Spectras are good for 2.5ft to 3ft plants I'd say so you'd be fine. And you can keep kessils more than a foot apart. The cool thing with them is that they run on very little power and you could easily mount them however you want, and they are fairly cheap so you can always add more. I would probably go all purple/magenta/whatever with kessils if I went with them (I'm going with a 395w 2011 Spectra for my 2.5ft x 2.5ft tent should be here on monday or tuesday at the earliest)
