Newbie with 1sr AG grow, need some help

Hi All,

Great to be here, just so much information.

I started my first grow in an earogarden classic I got cheap. Stuck it in a metal cabinet and lined with reflective insulation material (foam, foil on one side). Had 4 out of 7 seeds sprout a root after 2 days. Read here that I was supposed to leave the paper on the plastic nets. So I swapped them for paper covered nets, poked holes in the foam, put the roots in the holes and put back in the 4 good ones. Covered the holes with making tape, stuck a 4 inch stone in one hole and taped. Light cycle was 24/0 now I changed to 18/6 ... something I read convinced me to do that. Nutes are Aerotabs but I got some Foxfarm hydro grow and bloom. I havent used it yet. SO its only been 5 days and I was hoping to see some babies. One thing is my temp/hum reads 25% 66F and I'm sure that low but not sure how to raise it ... my place is 68F this time of year. This sure is a long post for a first one, sorry.

And ideas for the temp?

its that cold in there? you will need more CFL's anyways, so that should keep things warm, did you germinate in a paper towel first?

Well it's winter here, so it's about 20 F outside. Basement is around 68. I'll get some CFL at Walmart today, maybe 4 to start.
I germinated in the AG, seemed to work fine.

This morning one was popping out the hole!
Very excited.

Just added 4 - 1600 Lumens CFL's 6500K Daylight lamps. Man, it's bright in there. Temp is going up already.

This is my first time growing anything other than my food garden. It's addictive as hell.

Ok, so it's been a month since I started my aero grow and finally I got 1 plant to start. I started with seven and one came up. All bag seed. Then it wasn't doing so good and I had to get the root through the hole I poked in the foam. Still never made it. Then one had a tap root about 5 inches long and never popped out of the top. So I messed with it and it ended up dying. So I put in some more seeds and about a week ago I noticed 1 started and popped through the hole. Not like the other one that popped and died, this one looked healthy. And it seems to double in size every day. It is about 1 1/2 inch tall today. I'm very excited. Just got to figure how to post pics here.
I do have a problem, because I want to put my setup in a bigger cabinet. So I can add a fan and exhaust. My next step is to find one so I can put 2 in it on shelves.

Well here is a pic of my one little baby that is growing like wildfire.

Funny thing is it look like a vegatable plant. I'm hoping thats not the case or I'll have to start over again. THere may have been a seed in there from the Aerogarden originals kit.

well its for sure weed hahaha

your gonna neeed more lighting though for flowering and i recomend flowering early to keep height reasonable you may want to top it once ad wait a few eeks then flower
id get another 2-4 42watt soft white for flowering as well
temps are always difficult more fans lower temps make sure the ambient in your room is low to an evap cooler works wonders

Right now there is no fans or ventilation. I'm hoping to get a new cabinet and add that. Look Like I better do it soon.

Just posting some new pics. You can see I have 2 27W cfl's mounted to the door. These are not soft whites they are the HT type. I believe that's what I am supposed to be using for vegging, let me know if that wrong please.
I can't believe how fast this is growing ... hope its a female because I'll try cloning with another Aero. It seemed to have doubled in size in one day. Very cool. It almost looks like 2 plants in the pictures, I'd better check.

Soft White is for flowing, but you can veg with them, i used all soft white bulbs thru out my veg and now currently flowering cycle.

My bulbs are daylight (6500K) but I have some soft whites for flowering when the time comes.

So this little baby is growing better than my vegetable gardens does in the summer. Seems to double in size every day, could that be right?

I took some pics and was wondering if it's too early to tell if it's male or female. It's only like a week old. But i posted some closeups.

Thats just new growth, they will show sex once you flower, or you may see pre sex signs deep into vegging

Hey Spike - So far so good, subscribed ... would like to see final product!

What week are you on? Have you started to feed them FF yet?

Lots of tricks to learn with AG's. Make excellent germination machines in my view but would hate to do a full grow with one. The little tap root grows into the sponge and a person has to check it everyday till it breaks out of the bottom end. Also that weak light makes them stretch like crazy. Each time you see one a few inches tall and skinny you got to shove it a little deeper down in the sponges. After they start looking like killer weed move it to Hempy buckets.
