Mini Fridge Grow #2

Well, I just recently had my first ever successful harvest using a mini fridge for a grow box. I hit a few bumps in the road in the beginning, and I sadly only wound up with one female, but in the end I was able to get about 20g of very dank purple weed, so I can't complain. Well, no I'm starting over, but this time I'm going to start my grow journal from the very beginning.

This time around I'm germinating 12 seeds, 6 of the same unknown strain, and 6 bagseeds. As of right now, two have germinated.

For veg I am going to use 3 23w 6500k, and 1 68w 2700k.

Last time I made the mistake of vegging for two months, this time I will only veg for 2 to 4 weeks tops. I plan to get into flowering right away. I want to grow a few short plants rather than one tall one, so I'll probably start flowering around 6-12 inches

For flowering I'm planning to invest in a 70w HPS security light from home depot because they have them for 50 bucks. I figure I'll run a couple of CFLs as well.

Pics will be up soon.

Well, I've finally done it, I've gone HPS. I picked this up at Home Depot, it was on sale for $50.

I did the wiring myself, not that it was complicated or anything, but I'm pretty damned proud of myself. I may have gone a little overboard by buying 12 gauge, 20 amp, 300 volt rated cable, but oh well. I haven't actually put it in my fridge yet, so I don't know how temps will be, but I ran it for a few minutes, and it didn't really get that hot, so I think I'll be ok. If not, I've got plenty of cable, and an extra conduit junction box, so I figure I can convert it to a remote ballast system really easily.

Here it is running:

Now all I need to do is convert my night stand into a veg box and I will have one killer set up.

Here we go, I've got my first four sprouts. Still waiting on some seeds to germinate yet, but hopefully there is one or two females among these four sprouts.

I've got something weird going on. These are just bagseeds, and I was only able to get three to germ successfully, so I expect weird things, but still...

This one looks totally normal. Completely random bagseed, but look'n good. This one got going around 3/2/10.

This one, I don't know what is going on with it.

Same deal with this one.

I should add that all of these sprouted about the same time. The first one is going great, so I hope that is a fem. I don't know what the deal is with the other two.

Temp is 80 degrees. The soil is "organic" miracle grow, so that has some nutes in it, but other than that no nutes. I don't think it is the nutes in the soil as the first plant looks awesome, I think that the other two might just be odd ducks.

Yo you should have that light on those plants yet!!! thats way to intense for them right now!!!! you need to start them out with a little softer of a light before you throw them in to that heat.

Not that much light, not that much heat. The two odd balls were deformed from the start. Temp is around 80F, two 23W cfls.

I thought about getting a HPS light from Home Depot or Lowes too. Lowes actually has a patio light that's 150 watt HPS for $35. It doesn't have a nnice reflector like the one you got but I was thinking of getting 2 of them and extending the wires from the ballast to the socket. Then mounting the ballasts outside my grow box with the bulbs near the top in a "cool tube" with a fan blowing air right through cooling the bulbs.
I might do it for the next grow depending on how my current one goes. I started with CFL so I want to finish with CFL to see what kind of harvest I get.

Luckily, I bought the parts to make it a remote ballast in advance. Unfortunately, I got lazy, and like an idiot, I didn't bother to make it a remote ballast. It should only take a few minutes of my time though, so I guess it's no big deal. This is for everybody; plan ahead.
