Advice needed for harvest/curing of Afghani (Pics)

I am 21 days into flowering and have a few questions.

Heres my setup:

2X 175W MH at 12/12
18 gal DWC (Use 10gal)
4x Afghani girls, Botanicare Pure Blend Pro, ppm at ~1000

I did a week of transition going into flower w/ 1/2grow + 1/2 bloom at 12/12.

I was wondering if I should count that week as part of the flowering stage. I read in many articles and books that afghani takes ~45 days of fowering and wanted to know when I should start cutting the nutes to flush them. They are 21 days into flowering, 28 if you count the transition. Here's some pics.

splurge on the $11 to get a RadioShack.com - Cables, Parts & Connectors: Tools & soldering equipment: Magnifiers: Illuminated Microscope from radio shack. let the trichromes get 75% amber. theres plenty of pics of what you need to look for on the site just do a searh if you need more info than that. those look fantastic for 21 days into flowering and you will be extremely happy when youre like ~50days into flowering and those buds quadruple in size, if you keep up the good work.

Yeah, your flowering time starts when you switch to 12/12, so you're on Day 28. And I don't know about the many books and articles, but Afghani will mature in 55-60 days. Change your res to plain water on Day 52, and you'll be set.

once the trichomes are 70-75% amber in colour your plants will be ready for harvest. if the trichomes appear all clear or transparent they are a little immature, if the trichomes begin to bend or slant over the plants have been growing a bit too long and should be harvested before the level of thc degrades. hope that helps

The trichs only need to be non-transparent. The amount of cloudy/amber trichs shoudl relflect whether or not you prefer a more "energetic" (cloudY) or narcotic (amber) high.

I havnt harvested yet but Im not looking at much. Mine got badly stunted. Root rot got the best of me. I am just now starting to see white roots pop out of my brown balls of shit that used to be my beautiful root mass. I have about 3 more weeks but Im looking at about 1oz per plant. If you do everything right you should get about 3 times that much. Good luck.

LOL I just looked at your grow journal and I read the bit on your cat...I had the same fucking thing happen to me!! I catch her all the time eating the leaves. Yeah your setup is the same as mine, but I must say you need to light proof (I have 3 trashbags and 2 layers of mylar) that tub and get some hygrozyme to protect those roots. I learned the hard way on how important they are.

oh I used the mylar and trashbags to keep the light out...I just wrapped them around the res but light still got in. Most people paint their resevoirs black but I got lazy and now im paying for it.

If you buy the radio shack scope I recommend taking samples off the plant and laying them on a white sheet of paper on a table for viewing. This was recommended on the board and really improves the view. You'll be much steadier.

no I covered the ENTIRE resevoir. Imagine if you got pissed and grabbed a trashbag and tossed your whole system into it. Its completely bagged up. It looks like a trashbag with plants growing out of it. Just make sure you use the hygrozyme or hydrogaurd (any root protector) and you wont have resort to trashbags....but a layer of paint or duct tape is recommended to keep the light out.
