I've started a 12/12 from seed and im a full week from sprout. It is still just a sprout though, no nodes or fan leaves. Looks the same as when it first came out the ground. Does it take longer sometimes with 12/12 or is it likely a weak plant?

You always get that initial period when little seems to be happening above ground! The seedling is putting down its roots, thats where the energy is concentrated. Dont worry :-)

Take a look at my pics a few posts back (previous page)..... they show how fast these go on a 12/12 from seed grow.... I posted a series of pics showing from day 11 up to day 30 on a 12/12 seed plant grow....might give you some perspective on your own plants which are probably just about ready to take off hopefully :-)

The slowest part is always in the beginning but once they get going they will just go crazy, depending on your light set up. I know Randy uses a 430hps, not sure about any others right off hand. I use a 1000hps. Seems to work pretty good.

It's hard to LST in 12oz cups though. I did an LST/Scrog last time but not 12/12. Just wanted to try something different this time. The secondary shoots are catching up so fast with the main stalk I'm not sure it is necessary or not.

Take your point about the cups :-) I think both methods achieve the same results more or less, to encourage more tops closer to the lights.

Randy seems to like to just let them go and I love to see them grown that way....... but I need to keep my plants very short.

personal choice I guess :-)

thanks nice to hear some words of encouragement. I will see what happens in the next week. Think I might follow your lead with the LST cerebral, some nice looking plants there.

Thanks Hassan :-)

I'll have to add the pics of days 1 to 11 to complete the series! But like you say, nothing much happens 'above ground' so I dont generally bother!

Good luck.

I am about to start my first grow under a couple fluorescents in a bit and was wondering. Should I go 24 till they sprout and then switch to 12/12 or go 18/6 till sprout or just straight 12/12 for the whole thing? Any advice would be greatly appericiated

well by accident I touched the sprout slightly and it moved very easily. So I carefully took a look and the root has barely grown at all. Its still basically a taproot with one tiny hair. Its white like it should be, no rot. Ive grown a couple plants before and didn't get this slow of growth. I tried mixing my own soil this time and was thinking maybe thats the problem. I mixed 2 parts topsoil, 1 part compost/peat, 1 part vermaculite, 1 part perlite and some worm castings. I did it like this so I could add my own nutes with watering. It seems kind of clumpy and Im thinking maybe its hard for the roots. Was thinking maybe add some peat moss to the mix? Sorry for posting this here just thought u guys might have some good advice on these thoughts. Really want to get this 12/12 going

Dude, relax a bit. Give it some time ok? It is going to take a week or two for it to get going depending on what lights you have. The lower the lights, like cfls or flouros the longer it will be before it takes root. Just relax with it now. Keep it simple and don't be messing with the little thing or pulling it out and looking at the roots. JMO. Don't take what I say offensively please. Seems many stoners are sensative when it comes to getting others opinions.

no I hear ya blue. Usually I wouldn't be so impatient but I'm having a hellofa time this go round. Using old bagseeds and the fewthat germinate won't sprout and the one that does is going sloooow. I've grown 4 plants under less wattage t12 floro with the same bagseeds and did not have these troubles. Its actually been 2 weeks or more if we're talking from the time it germinated and it just seems like it should have more growth than only a taproot. I went ahead and remixed with peatmoss and the soil looks a lot better. I'll leave it alone now and see what happens. It really didn't involve pulling the plant out because literally no roots. I have it under a 6500k T5HO right now which should be plenty for a sprout.

As a side I'm amazed by how people both noobs and experienced react to posts on these boards a lot. So I hear u on not taking offense. I'm also amazed at how people like to insist stuff doesn't work. Like the guy at the beginning of this thread talking about 12/12 being a bad idea. Lots of people are doing lots of things "against the rules" and getting results

I think people should be 'given the right' to actually give advice. Pass some test or whatever. That would of course be leaving me out simply because I don't know enough by experience at most things to be giving advice to be honest. What I do know for sure I don't mind saying, but yea too many people give out some bad advice. Just ain't right.

ive read almost every page of this thread now and im hooked... i have 5 clones that have just taken root and im about to put them on 12\12 instantly. For my first 12\12 grow i plan to use nothing more than SuperThrive and Jack's (formerly Pete's) African Violet Food. I have used petes for as long as i have been growing with good results, this will be the first year i have tried superthrive. It seems to serve well as a root stimulant, but im more interested to see what it can do for my flowers:eyesmoke:... Has anyone else tried the so called superjuice??? i would love to see or hear anything about it... Its kind of a mystery... will upload pics of clones tomorrow and keep them updated throughout the grow...
