Hey man, just caught up on the thread, love the stadium, and 4k in light thats great! I really like that timer box your using pretty sweet. Once I invest in a couple more lights I would like to get something like that. I've only got 1k right now, and its set up for 120v.
I really like stadium set ups, seems like a great way to get alot of plants in a small spot.

I'll raise them today and post pics so you can tell me what you think. It'll be a full house by then... or as full as it's gonna get. :blsmoke:

where are you getting all these lamp setups?? just from the electric supply house and building your own??? if you are breaking it down in 75 days i will buy the 1000s off of you if the price is right???

Yeah, I get the ballasts for $118 and wire them myself.

I'm sure I'll keep using those ballasts somewhere else, winkdog, so I can't promise anything :-P

congrats on the new light pickup...

im tossing and turning back and fourth between your and Flo's vert set ups...one of them will get duplicated this next grow round by myself...both are so fucking awesome...Flo's will definitely tap my pockets a lil more but the design and craftsmanship of his set up is A1...so torn right now...

so to feed, you just fill the outer containers with water/nutes, wait and then refill the outer containers?...do you water the same way as well?

i was thinking about a setup which combined the hydro and stadium style setup which intrigued me. would be much cheaper but still a vert system.. ill explain it with words now but ill make a diagram for you guys later..

basically its like this..

you have a stadium style setup, but instead of benches with soil, you have 6 inch pvc pipes staggered in different levels.

you could either run 3 different pipes, on different resivours, or you could have one large res and have the pipe snake down from the top to the bottom and drain back into the res.

basically construct the pvc pipe with holes in it for netted cups similar to how they do the octogarden, but simply have 3,4,5 rows in a stadium style setup.. just drill the holes, drop the net cups in and flood..

the beauty is that you could configure it so many different ways, you could do a constant run like a nft system, or if you wanted you could run it like a flood and drain, or if you wanted to get technical you could make it an aeroponic setup..

you could either have them all on the same cycle, or have em staggered or whatever you wanted to do.. but either way it would be the benefits of a stadium style grow, with the convienience and ease of hydropoincs, and you could build the whole thing for probably 300 bux..

another thing you could do is a modified stadium with pvc pipes, but instead of having them offset and staggered like an upside down pyramid, just do them right on top of one another like 2 feet apart.. same concept but directly stacked instead of staggered back.

either way would be cool. i have always liked the ease of a stadium, but hate growing in soil no offense lol im just not too good at it.. anyways ill make some diagrams when i get back from the store today

just my .02

EDIT: If I am hijacking lemme know Richard Pryor and ill move it but i wanted to clarify and deliver those diagrams i promised.

as you can see you could add or remove a level depending on strain/height and if you did a lolipop style straight from clone this would be perfect especially if you offset the sites like seen in the fist diagram because basically the plants would not block eachother and you could have 4 tiers instead of 2 or 3..

now of course you will want to measure and make it straight an pretty when you construct it but i did this in paint and im lazy LOL

FLo's setup is remarkable indeed.

Yes, that's how I feed/water the plants during the first few weeks of their life... for a couple of reasons. First because the pots are so filled with soil that pouring water over the top would have to be done carefully and slowly. Also, if I fed from the top always, the perlite in the soilless mix would go to the top of the pot too quickly. This is unavoidable in the long run, though, and at the end of the cycle the top of the soil is covered with perlite.

It is important to top feed from time to time, though. Speaking of which, I watered the plants from the top yesterday, until they were bubbling away on top. When the top of the soil bubbles, the old stale air flows out and is replaced by fresh oxygenated air. It’s a good idea to flush periodically to remove salt buildups. It also helps to aerate the soil as well as preventing dry spots from forming.

Towards the end of the plant's life, and specially while flushing, I feed and water from the top.

I really like where you're going with this, FLoJo. In fact, I might give it a go next time around. You could even turn the plants if you wanted to, right?

What size netted pots? How far apart would you space them? How and where would you support the pvc pipes?

Soil is messy, heavy, expensive and a pain to get rid of.

ya i agree.. i couldnt handle getting rid of that much soil every grow LOL esp. in a condo or apartment.. fishy to say the least..

and ya you could turn them at first to get them positioned but after they started growing and the roots filled up the pvc it probably would not be a good idea to move em that much. just trim off the branches on the back and you are good to go.

i would just use like 3 or 4 inch pots using hydroton, and spacing would depend on what strain and style you wanted to grow.

if you wanted to grow larger indicas you could space them out more, and have the levels closer together, and the sites spread further apart, whereas if you wanted to do tall sativas, you could lolipop them, put the sites close together, and space them vertically further apart.
or if you wanted to go crazy and grow from clones, and lolipop sog style you could put them close together, and the vertical height compact to squeeze in 4 or 5 levels and have like a hundred plants on each site easy.... just think about the aeroflow i think they are called.. it is a similar design, you would just be staggering their heights and turning it into a stadium.

EDIT:oh ya and you asked about to support em..

well you could do it a few different ways.. i think the BEST way would be to have each tube as an individual and not connect them in a snake pattern. then i would build a frame over the top to hold the lights, fans etc.. and i would hang each individual tube by chains.
this would mean that as they grow i would have the freedom to move them up and down at any time to change the spacing and have optimal light conditions throughout the entire grow.
this would require you to have 3 or 4 pumps in the same res, and have a power strip or something of that nature with timers for each individual tube.
this way you could run one, and when it turns off, have the second one turn off, and when that one goes off the third etc etc etc. i think this method would be ideal.
but if you wanted to snake them together like the diagram shows, you could easily do so and either hang them with chains, or build a frame for it to sit on out of 2x4s or build the entire thing out of pvc.. just demends on your space and skill level with construction.

The temp in the veg room gets to 89°, so I'm gonna keep the mothers in the flower room for the 12 hours that the light is on, then transfer to veg room for another 6 hours. Here they are. Big Bud on top and White Berry in the middle row.

I've been working on a design based off of Stink buds aero/nft flower system. I talked to him about it awhile ago. He uses 4" square PVC fence posts with a pipe running inside of it with aero sprayers on it. He uses 2 inch net pots, and spaces them about 12 inchs apart. I figured you could easily use some 4 inch gutter down spouts at the end of each row, and have them drain into the res. You could easily have 4-5 rows, and prolly use a piece of screen(like a scrog) to support the plants. I think it would work great.

maybe all the rows could drain into an actual gutter (slight pitch) ans that way the res could be anywhere and it would be cool to watch the water flow!

That could work, the way I had it planned it would be almost completely vertical, like a grow wall. The plumbing for the aero sprayers would run inside of the downspout and then down each fence post into the res with a pump in it. I don't know, its just a brainstorm I've been working on, I need to draw something up.

Sounds like a really cool setup . I really want cool rivers of nutes running all around my grow room plus this open gutter might help keep res temps in check??(or make them worst??)
