Judge issues first outright acquittal of Jan. 6 riot defendant
Following a two-day bench trial in U.S. District Court in Washington, New Mexico engineer Matthew Martin was acquitted Wednesday on four misdemeanor charges by U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden. Martin claimed that he thought the police had allowed him into an entrance near the Capitol Rotunda on Jan. 6, 2021.

McFadden said that, based on video of the scene, that assertion was at least “plausible” and that prosecutors failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Time to clean house, and if there is anyway possible (assassination?) get those fucking Trump appointees off the fucking bench.
They are a fucking bunch of MAGA supporters that suck.
Their intellect/intelligence/non-partisanship is nowhere to be seen
Really, these fuckers are on the bench forever, acolytes of Trump's way of thinking?
That is really, really sad/fucked up.
That pestilence Trump has left a legacy of destruction behind him that will last a fucking lifetime.
It really will.

This is the part where I counsel patience, and you respond angrily.
It that surprising?
I admire/envy your patience, but like my dear friend @Roger A. Shrubber, I am totally out of patience with the direction Trump has forced/cajoled this Nation onto a path of self-destruction.
And the fucker is still holding rally's/in the news every single fucking day.
It's like Chinese water torture, drip, drip, drip.
Will it ever fucking end?
I pray for the day it will end, but you/I know that it won't until the fuckers in jail or dead (I prefer the latter)

Leaked audio: Kevin McCarthy says Trump accepted 'some responsibility' for Jan. 6
Yet another piece of leaked audio of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has emerged.

CNN on Friday aired audio in which McCarthy can be heard telling Republican lawmakers in January of 2021 that former President Donald Trump told him he bears some responsibility for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The audio was obtained by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns for their book This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for America's Future.

"I asked [Trump] personally today, does he hold responsibility for what happened?" McCarthy said. "Does he feel bad about what happened? And he told me he does have some responsibility for what happened."

McCarthy also told members that Trump "bears responsibility for his words and actions" and must acknowledge this. That same month, McCarthy publicly said Trump "bears responsibility" for the riot, though he still argued against impeaching him.

A previous piece of leaked audio on Thursday night revealed McCarthy told House GOP colleagues he planned to urge Trump to resign, despite a spokesperson for McCarthy previously claiming this was never said. According to The Washington Post, McCarthy and Trump spoke over the phone Thursday night, and the former president was "not upset" about the leaked remarks.

When asked at a news conference earlier this year whether he told Republicans that Trump agreed he bears responsibility for Jan. 6, McCarthy said, "I'm not sure what call you're talking about."

lol sorry, your post made me think of this.
my post makes me think that the people who should be prosecuting trump are cowards who won't take a chance on anything but a 100% certain conviction, and they'll never fucking get that, so trump will walk free, encouraging the next thieving lying fuckbag (desantis) to try the same fucking shit...while trump plays golf, and spends his stolen money

Matt Gaetz slams Kevin McCarthy after tape leaks of McCarthy saying he would push Trump to resign in January 2021
GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz on Friday slammed House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy after an audiotape leaked of Trump-critic Rep. Liz Cheney and McCarthy discussing how to get President Donald Trump to resign shortly after the January 6 Capitol riot.

"While I was rallying in Wyoming against Liz Cheney … Kevin McCarthy was defending Liz Cheney among House Republicans," Gaetz wrote on Twitter. "@GOPLeader - you should have trusted my instincts, not your own."

"While I was rallying in Wyoming against Liz Cheney … Kevin McCarthy was defending Liz Cheney among House Republicans," Gaetz wrote on Twitter. "@GOPLeader - you should have trusted my instincts, not your own."

Gaetz's and other loyal MAGA lawmakers' reactions will be closely watched in the wake of the tape's release. In an audio recording first played on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow show on Thursday night, McCarthy can be heard talking to Cheney about what to do about Trump in the wake of the insurrection.

"I'm seriously thinking of having that conversation with him tonight. I haven't talked to him in a couple days," McCarthy tells Cheney, then-the No.3 House Republican, and other top party leaders during a call on January 10, 2021, referring to Trump. "But what I think I'm going to do, is I'm going to call him. This, this is what I think, we know that it'll pass the House. I think there's a chance it'll pass the Senate, even when he's gone."

McCarthy was talking about pushing for Trump to resign in the face of a possible swift and bipartisan impeachment effort to remove him from office.

His comments are all the more notable because McCarthy has publicly denied that he ever considered pushing for Trump to resign. He issued a blanket denial of his reported comments from the forthcoming book by two New York Times reporters, "This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for American Democracy."

If Republicans were to retake the House in November, McCarthy would be in line to become Speaker of the House. But depending on how many seats Republicans flip, he could have very little room to lose support from far-right lawmakers like Gaetz.

Gaetz also accused Cheney of recording and leaking the audio from the call. Cheney has denied the claim. McCarthy defended Cheney from Trump and fellow GOP critics for months before bowing to an effort by Republicans to force her from her leadership post. He now opposes her reelection.

"The select committee has asked Kevin McCarthy to speak with us about these events but he has so far declined. Representative Cheney did not record or leak the tape and does not know how the reporters got it," Cheney's office said in a statement to CNN.
trusted gaetz's instincts? why, were they going to go to the local high school to pick up teenage girls?

That man has done us one service: he has exposed the GOP’s true depth of evil: racism, voter suppression, gender hate, reintroduction of church (the especially virulent sort) into government, and apparently very broad support for fascism.
I still believe that in the course of this year, many of these chickens will come back to roost in the defendant’s chairs of the coming lawstorm.

I get it. Everyone has something that they want done that is not moving fast enough.

I heard David Hogg (the kid who survived the Parkland school shooting and became a activist) complaining about how the Democrats are not getting gun laws they want done, and how he doesn't believe that they will ever get 60 votes necessary to pass it so they need to do something else. And all I could think was how much I would have liked the tv reporter to ask him 'what are you doing in Florida to put pressure on the 2 Republican senators/House members or helping to get the Democrats elected in order to help them have the ability to change the laws'.

Others about Climate change, voting rights, not having world war 3, or allowing Putin's genocide to hammer or economy, on and on.

I personally wish that they would step up and rip the wings off of any and every bit of propaganda across all forms of media, which also is not happening and IMO is the most dangerous thing we are facing since it impacts the ability for people to see straight on everything.

But when I start to get all antsy about things not moving fast enough, I think about how long people have been fighting for better treatment in our nation, and how we are just getting to the point in our society that we have one party that is fighting for a fully inclusive government, and starting to see the states that have been electing Democrats (even if still swing states) finally holding people accountable in ways we never would have seen in the past (like the murderer of George Floyd, or Ahmed Aubrey's killers in Georgia), and everything else we have gained that goes away if the Republicans win enough elections.

We were doing so well, but we took our eye off the ball for the last decade or so and the same loud voices that have been pushing the hateful agenda snuck in and are trying to undo our democracy so that they can elect dictators that would use their hate to maintain their power to give the ultra wealthy tax/business breaks so they continue to fund their lifestyles.

It sucks when we don't get what we want right away, but I try to remember delaying satisfaction for a few years is worth not giving up on decades of overcoming the worst we have had to offer as a nation.

We need to keep moving the nation forward and giving the Republicans the fights they want is not the way to do that.

I don’t think there’s any way McCarthy becomes speaker after this.

Gaetz is a solid vp choice for DeSantis. Double down on making America Florida.

It is funny/weird/creepy/sad that teen fucker Matt Gaetz is a guiding light and strong force in their party. Going to add the word awful to my list as I need a vowel, my new word for this feeling is FWACS.
