Electric costs

Are you in US? Us UK people are getting pumped front back and centre on fuel and energy at the moment its quite bad even food prices have rocketed we will be eating the dog soon lol
Yes, North-Eastern US. I'd guess it's less you getting screwed and more the fact that the Fed. government here does some serious fuel subsidies which keeps retail down...similar to gas pricing here vs. UK or EU.

My real expense comes during the summer when I'm running two dehumidifiers at basement level to keep that floor (grow area, large storage area, art studio & music room w/instruments), in the 50% RH or lower range.

Yeah basically we've had energy price caps in the UK for ages , which are now removed.
53% rise as a result and expectations of a further 100% next year. That may or may not happen.
But with the recent price rise I'd guess average price now here is 50cents kwh at least.

To show you what’s just happened here.

before Christmas my direct debit to the energy supplier was £209 for both gas and electric.

they emailed me last Month as the energy price cap has been lifted to tell me my payments are increasing to £314 per month.

my usage hasn’t gone up but they can now charge 54% more than previously because the cap has been lifted.

national minimum wage has increased but so too has everything else to compensate Paying minimum wage workers more money.

National insurance (our healthcare tax) has increased by £1000 per year.

Everything here is going up.

A few weeks ago the chancellor announced a £0.05 reduction in petroleum tax per litre.

the Week before this announcement petroleum here went up £0.07 pence and In the last year we’ve seen it climb from £1.20 a litre to now £1.70 a litre.

I was joking bud I know its not worth it if we steal off the rich we get spanked and go to jail.
However though remember this.

they cannot legally cut off your electricity and gas supply even if you stop paying your direct debit.

how do I know?

Because I fucking outright asked the bastards lol.

however you would have to deal with court proceedings and possible bailiffs lol.

That's correct, I think its along the lines of, the leccy company rent your meter(s), the grid supplies.

Likely hood is they'd fit a smart meter and fuck you that way, you know they do pre payment on those smart meters now ?

No I didn’t know. But then I’ve told them to fuck off with their smart meters. I give monthly meter reads via the app. Lol.

I switched from LED to HPS and now the electric has gone up by 50%, so I'm back in square one again, paying ridiculous prices again on my electric

Here's the thing...Electric costs are what they are. You can't change that. You can only change your grow and even that you can only change so much because plants need what they need and your home/grow environment is what it is so you have to deal with those factors. You can fudge what you spend here and there depending on efficiency and/or materials, but only so much.

If you can't lay out what it takes to make it happen, then the other option is to not grow. If you're growing because of your love of using cannabis, then you need to compare what you'd spend buying it retail vs. what it costs to grow it.

Do the math, and if it doesn't add up with what you have for funding and budgeting, don't do it.

I know a couple of lads who are playing the game. Paid to have their own meters installed, they no longer give a billing company readings, the grid who supply them can not cut them off.

It'll be interesting to see where it goes, I expect them in court at some point, they're not paying council tax either as the council could not prove their obligation to pay it. For obvious reasons these are non grow houses.

Where I am in the states, they implemented a distribution service fee at the beginning of the year that is essentially a tax of 50% on both G&E. PITA but it is what it is. I am with jonda, when I hear people with tents getting mini splits and 1000w heaters running 24/7 I usually feel like it can be solved messing with your intake/exhaust
