24/0 vs. 18/6 debate is over!!!!

What you've described is the classic "gaslight timing" designed to interrupt the dark cycle of photoperiod sensitive plants. It's called that because rich English people in early hot houses noticed they could keep seasonal plants in their vegetative phase by running gas lighting (all they had at the time, this was before electric lights) for an hour in the middle of the night.

Your next sentence is interesting; are you saying that your bloom cycle is 8 hours on and 16 hours off?
Yes, it is similar to gaslighting, but indoors, in a controlled environment, it ends up working on the plants a little differently. For instance, outside plants would still have moon cycles as well as variable length (increasing) hours of daylight affecting the photo period.

Yes, I only flower with 8 hours of light per day. That is all cannabis needs (when vegged under 12/1 schedule). Buds are perfectly formed. :-)

Lol. Tell me again about moon cycles.

I just meant that every 28 days or thereabouts they get less dark when the moon is full. I dunno what kind of effect that has, and maybe it's de minimis, but I just thought I'd mention. I'm not a woo-woo grower, I just like saving as much money as I can.
So what altitude are you growing at? I'm at 5000', and I live in the world's largest food dehydrator lol

Mj prefers to carry out certain things in the dark cycle. Take the dark cycle away and it will still carry out these chores but will devote all other time to max growth.

That's to say if it grows at x rate a normal 18/6 cycle will have 18 hours of growth at x rate. If it grows at 24/0 cycle it won't have 24 hours of growth at x rate but 20 or so with the rest given over to non growth chores.

You will get the same cycle as light dark with high low light, it dosent have to be dark just enough signal to cue change.

In many species the biggest plants were grown with 24/0, there wasn't much difference between 20/4 and 24/0.

If there is no signal to cue change it will use starch reserves to time circadian rhythm.

Some species of plants do need a dark cycle, constant light can cause reactive damage. Mj isn't one and will grow as well in no dark cycle.

this is interesting (but not cannabis related)

that cactus photoreceptors measured the moonlight to take one annual fullmoon as its sign to flower

There is more to plants than what has been written in Marijuana Grow books.

Bottom line
--------------------------------------------------
I use 28% less electricity in veg over 18/6
I use 33% less electricity in flower over 12/12

I suffer no yield loss, or lack of quality.

Do you have any bud/harvest pics?

I'll have to get some pics from this year. I'm not great at taking photos with regularity unfortunately, but here are some from when I first built this room:

Day 44:

DAY44_8_16_01.jpg

I've got trellis and better defoliation going now. I just threw everything together for that run. Turned out great but it was awhile ago now.

Day 58 Bogglegum:

A different, later run. Day 45 AKBB "Darien Gap" CGPRxTKNL5Haze:

AKBB Hawaiian Cat Piss:

I'll try to get some new ones soon.

This is all under 8/16 flower. I run the lights 9 to 5 because that's workin' hours. ;-)
