Agree never really focused on growing huge stalks they kinda happen outside in soil in big pots etc even with me a novice grower who never intentionally amended silica. I noticed i couldn't remember seeing any tree trunks of that caliber on any indoor plants not saying they dont exist but why i had curiosity about the silica thing

Ya for sure gonna check it out. From the pic it looks to me like a raised bed with a cover? Assuming living soil?

This is the dried stem of a plant grown outdoors in the ground in Oklahoma in 2019. The soil in this garden had been organically amended for 15 years, and I used about 3 gallons of my homemade worm compost. The plant was germinated in early April, outdoors, and put in the ground by the end of the month.PXL_20211230_020747959 (1).jpg

impressive!
Did you use any topping etc?
Ive been growing outdoors for years, but never really done much apart from plant them, then harvest them a few months later. I want to do some learning so I can grow monster trees like I see some folks doing on here.

it’s the soil and sun and long veg
yeah we are definitely limited here (coastal north) by the weather - we have less sun, and more moisture, so I can't grown them as bushy without hitting into a lot of powdery mildew towards the end of the season. Still I'd like to push it as far as I can within those limitations.

Double J's grows are awesome. We definitely have a higher moisture here though especially at the end of the season.
