Weed in Canada has ZERO value

If BIG AG taking over cannabis was going to happen it would have been done by now before the funding started to dry up.

Even the major greenhouse growers in the US that invested in Canada like Pure Sunfarms are taking a beating even though they are lauded as one of the few bright spots in the rec marketplace.

Really, you cant imagine who will want it? Tobacco...really high quality tobacco is grown here and elsewhere. Is that what sells? Or is it cigarettes?

Tomatoes and corn....there are more fields in the USA than almost anywhere else...lots of big ag companies would he happy to switch over to cannabis, and create their own markets and distribution.

Corn sells for $5.50 a bushel.
Tomatoes are worth $0.30 a pound

See any room in there to switch crops and make money?
Respect but I don't need to imagine. Here in Canada we have proven that big cannabis doesn't work. Well not very well anyway. The Lp's have extremely tough competition with guys who grow in small to medium rooms. The Lp's have zero advantage imo.
Plus their weed doesn't sell that well to those who have a choice.
Cannabis is NOT tobacco. Don't compare it. Outdoor weed here has flopped so bad it's laughable. Greenhouse weed here is the next step up and I don't know a sole who'd buy it if it's presented honestly as greenhouse grown. Then we have indoor LP warehouse weed. This is the legal crap they sell in legal stores here. WAY over priced, stale, nuked, hyped, medium quality weed. A few exceptions I've heard to be honest. But mostly it's all crap. I don't know one person who buys it. They all want the best weed......not that shit. It's hamburger at best....not steak.
So if you think fields of weed is gonna change the landscape for cannabis......invest in it. NOT!
The Lp's here are hoping to sell it to other countries like yours if you go legal....stay clear of it.

It is not legal in the USA at a federal level, and therefore our industries of scale are not involved. Small farms or greenhouse setups exist. Some investors have bought or built multiple locations in multiple states.
Not full scale grow ops that are designed for commodity level output. It is not legal to grow it and ship it between states. That prevents the true economy of scale opportunity that Big Ag wants.

I've had plenty of killer outdoor, in fact better than the best indoor I've had. And I am not arguing that I want Big Ag involved...I am against it. But they can and will take over. And they will happily build monstrous greenhouse setups as soon as they get paid more for it. We have so much farmland here, we pay farmers across the country not to grow their crops. Simply to keep a workable market price. They can and will grow endless fields of quality flower using just the sun.

Cannabis is not some unique crop that somehow is difficult to grow or commoditized. As scale increases price goes down, they will happily plant cannabis for a higher return as soon as they can.

Washington and Oregon alone could supply the entire USA. If the midwest began growing it instead of some corn and other crops, an entire world supply could be created here alone.

That is when it all ends for those looking to make serious cash. I hope I am wrong, but this isnt some new special thing. It's just the next thing that will get fully legalized, as soon as they can make it work for their own pockets.

That's basically what the LPs did up here. Built monstrous greenhouses the size of 4 football fields and swallowed up other large LPs that couldn't quite make it or merged to become giant corporations. New rules allow huge fields of pot destined to become concentrates. It's the Budweisers and Labatts of the cannabis world. Made for the indiscriminate consumer but as micro-breweries and even micro-distilleries seem to do really well supplying the discriminate consumer so shall micro-grow operations and they are starting to make an impact up here these days. I may even end up buying some legal bud just to sample strains I might want to grow.

As hemp farmers are now allowed to sell the bud remains after they have harvested the seeds to legal extractors I want to see CBD prices drop to pennies per dose to make it affordable for all those people who really need it and can't afford the outrageous prices for watered down products they can get from the vendors now. I'm right into growing it and think I have found the all CBD lady I've been hunting for years. The soon to be harvested one will have a sample of it's concentrate sent to a lab to see how good it is and I think it's damn good from the meds I've made from it's outdoor grown mom so far. This DMSO roll-on kills joint pain, tendinitis, sprains and bruises. Making some in gel and spray on forms next.

Fuck the big guys!

3- $5 per bulb so she put some of the money into the next crop, (just had 10yds of composted cow manure dumped in the back yard yesterday and the tiller guy will be over next Friday to put it all in the garden and till it in. Looking to buy our own little tractor with a bucket, 5' mower and a tiller of our own.
This is great, love to hear that it is going so well for your wife with the garlic. It's just great when one can turn a hobby into a good source of income. I love garlic myself :).

BTW maybe check out this:
It's the "No Dig" method, popularized by the guy in the Video (Charles Dowding), about how to grow for cash without any digging or tilling. He's doing it on his small farm. You can see it all in the video.
Pretty sure it would save you guys the money for the tiller and the John Deere.

Absolutely. There seem to be a lot of folks around here who think that Cannabis is a mystery plant which cannot be grown like a commodity plant.

Genetics trumps everything. How many plants you grow from the same mother changes nothing about the outcome.

If there is no artificial light, maybe the buds are a little less dense, or maybe the terps aren't maxed. Who cares? The proportion of consumers who cares enough about these super high-end aspects that they would pay significantly more is tiny.

Cannabis is not some unique crop that somehow is difficult to grow or commoditized. As scale increases price goes down, they will happily plant cannabis for a higher return as soon as they can.
This.

IF the (legal) market for Cannabis becomes big enough that it will be worth it to run large green houses, the people with the money to invest in such facilities will do it, they will grow flowers that will be more than good enough for the general market at a price that nobody running a small-scale operation will beat. Period.

As long as taxes put a price floor on the weed, it could still be profitable to grow for the black market -- but that says nothing about the true value of Cannabis, it's a matter of tax evasion. You would be making your money from stealing taxes, not from growing something of "value".

The price of Cannabis will be that of basil, and since the genetics largely determine the quality, it will be good enough. The "connoiseurs" around here will disagree, but they are 1% of the market and the big producers couldn't care less.

The word "micro" is the relevant aspect. It is a tiny sliver of the market.

Many people on these forums naturally are high-end users. It is pure selection bias. The majority of the weed consumers out there have far lower expectations than the high-end connoiseurs around here.

They will happily buy and consume product that some folks here wouldn't even touch.

This is selection bias! YOUR circle of friends are cannabis enthusiasts, and you then assume that everybody out there thinks like you and your friends. However, what you guys might call "ditch weed" is actually really good stuff for 98% of consumers out there. Also, as soon as you make concentrates of any kind the quality of the flower becomes mostly irrelevant anyway.

The market isn't driven by the 1% of heavy users and picky connoisseurs. The mass market is casual users and maybe medical users, and they just don't care enough about the quality for it to become a relevant aspect for large-scale producers.

Maybe im biased but more than half my lifetime was spent smoking outdoor grown stuff.
Hopefully i will be able to buy some locally grown outdoor at a farmers market someday. There is something about sun grown that is just better.

Responding here although I was not addressed, as I just realize.

I live in a European country where weed is illegal, and most of the weed that is consumed is grown domestically, probably mostly in small-scale operations. There is legal (medical) cannabis, but it's not a lot and I'm guessing it's coming mostly from the Netherlands at the moment.

The market here is very, very different from what you're used to in Canada by now. There certainly is a lot of good-quality weed to go around, but most people I know, who are casual rec users, will smoke pretty much anything as long as it will get you high. You could pick ANY STRAIN you want from any of the breeders, grow it to maturity and sell it for 10€ per gram (that's 15 CAD per gram or around 450 CAD for an ounce). Any time.

Nobody looks at "bag appeal", "terpenes", or the specific "high" you get. Generally, the stuff you get offered by now is more than good enough for most consumers. If you're really picky you can get what you might call "high-end flower", but it will cost you even more, and you will need good black market contacts; most people do not have such contacts, unless they've been partaking heavily for years.

I'm not in the "business", but I know the going rates, and I know the full spectrum of the consumer side (from super-casual to heavy user).
I live in western Europe, not the Netherlands.

I can see your perspective. You are in a fairly liberalized environment; it's not the same around here, but the market is just as big.

Well welcome!
You see you are in the Canadian forum. Many folks here in Canada thought like you before it was legalized. Not me.
The story is way too long and big to catch you up. all I've said is quite true and FACT.
We have proven that here. How it goes in your country country I will not even attempt to say.
FACTS
Outdoor in Canada is almost no sale.
Greenhouse in Canada has no demand....only useful in stores that don't let you see or smell....bought once.....rarely twice.

Why would anyone here buy outdoor when they can grow 4 outdoor plants legally?

Canada has a terrible climate for outdoor cannabis. It was 7c the other night here.
We are not the southern States or Mexico. Outdoor from those places might be great...but here it's not the best. some can be okay. But it rarely compares to indoor. where the demand is.
You'll see if you ever legalize like we did with personal grow right .
Been there...done and seen that.
