Is a reversal of Roe v Wade decision next?

I’m surprised nobody’s talking about this. How long before woman lose their right to control their own bodies everywhere in the US?

I’m glad my daughter has Canadian citizenship too.

Texas 6-week abortion ban takes effect after Supreme Court inaction
This is like watching a glacier melt. Up next are court challenges. I don't think they can get away with their draconian restrictions on abortion.

Texas is an interesting situation. As in most of the US, Republican hold on power has been slipping over time and the trend has them losing within a few years. I believe this will eventually be struck down in the courts but it will energize their base, Meanwhile their voter suppression laws will bite into support for the Democratic Party in elections. Perhaps their bid to stay in power a while longer will succeed. Their erosion in support is like a flood and their actions are more like sandbagging to prevent structural damage.

I don't think they can win in the long run. So status quo means crooks are in charge and making off with as much loot as they can, while they can.

People in the south joke about building a wall around California, but....I wouldn't mind a wall around California, because this will be the first place they go, if they ever actually get what they're asking for.
Most of those who left California for Texas will not be able to afford to come back. It's a big decision. My brother moved to Arizona for the cheaper housing and he knew then he'd never be able to come back. There are a lot of California transplants in Arizona. Build the wall!

So effing true. We want to leave, but I've been thinking about exactly what you're saying. If we left and came back, it'd be renegade life, buying land in a secluded area and doing a bunch of permitless things.

I honestly wasn’t trying to be an alarmist. I think challenges to Roe v Wade are coming. I could be wrong. I hope so.
they are coming for sure. the religious right, although dwindling, still represent well at the polls which is where it matters.

you gotta remember that only 130 million of 360 million vote. maybe this is the wake up call we need to push out the conservatives. they are clinging on to power as is.

If you are a low income woman who uses these clinics for everyday healthcare due to not having insurance, it is alarming when they shut down.

Im guessing Texas is one of those states who refused their people to have access to Obamacare, and if that is the case, these clinics are a lot of women's only access to a doctor.

I was wrong, they do have access to the ACA in Texas.

I think Texas republicans are in a lot of trouble in 2022, state wide offices are up for grabs and the democrats are just 9 seats short of a majority in the house now. Trump and covid will hurt them badly and massive voter suppression and cheating might be their only hope, it could also backfire on them.

I think what we are seeing are the end days of white Christian male political control in the US. Anti-Abortion laws are about controlling women and anti voter laws are about stealing elections. They are making a strong last stand and it's not at all certain how it will end up but I like our odds after 2024. But still, it's a last stand. Like their Alamo. They might win but they are in an unfavorable situation. In order to maintain power they will have to lock down white nationalist minority control of the country. I don't think they can do it. But I am alarmed, just not so alarmed over this one action.

They are already in a minority, just not enough of one to level the playing field with new laws to insure free and fair elections. Federal voting by mail and automatic voter check box registration on income tax forms would do much to help things, so would getting rid of gerrymandering and dark money. Once the democrats gain a majority, they can deal with the bullshit the republicans are trying to pull off. They can also contain disinformation, covid illustrates the danger and need, so did Trump and the big lie.

but now were bypassing the bullshit.

www.forhims.com you can get most men drugs delivered to your door without leaving the comfy of your sofa.

women can get birth control right through telemedicine too and (pinch me) Texas won't know.

we can now bring on our own abortions with Plan B.

you know Texas is really behind the curve- wonder if they're prepared for the winter this year?

Im not sure how it is post ACA, but back in the day I know my now wife relied heavily on Planned Parenthood for a lot of her medical care when we were young and didn't have insurance. The right wing trolls would have people believe that all they do is abortions, but it is all aspects of women's healthcare that they help so many people who couldn't afford it otherwise.
