Weed smell, is it legal?

None of that matters. The path of less resistance is to eliminate the smell.

Show me a picture or describe your grow room
Oh, I'm not spending anymore money but I did lower the fan speed on my inline fan. I'll see if it makes a difference. But the thing is it's not that potent like it leaks a bit in the garage from the drying and curing stuff. It comes and goes. The neighbor just has a nose for it now.

Tell him to get used to it cuz he'll love it more once you grow 4 near his property line.
Won't that just gaslight him? Like I'm not purposely trying to release the turpenes, it just smells sometimes, especially when trim/dry/cure time comes around.

Like someone else said, tell him to get used to it. I know it's nice to be on good terms with neighbors and why not right. But your doing nothing wrong. Maybe point out something to him you don't care for on his property and say your even.
Give him some weed.

Best thing is to not tell people you grow in the first place. He would have never known where it was coming from and likely wouldnt have ever smelled it. He smells it because he knows its there.

All that being said, why exhaust outside? The heat from a grow room is excellent heat for your house, especially in Canada. I only grow in the winter and the biggest reason is that one big winter grow helps heat the house and cut the gas bill down and no electricity is wasted. Its also much easier to keep the tent in the temp range i desire. And with the right filters, no smell in the house either. Much easier to veg & train plants for 3 months and have 4 plants that completely fill out a 5x5 tent and just deal with one grow/harvest/dry/trim/cure per year.

When I had indoor tents in my basement I would do what you're doing. Now that it's in the garage it's too hot when the lights are on. I have to filter the air out.

Plus my garage isn't air tight sealed so some smell escapes.

I recirculate my exhaust and filtered you can't smell it indoors let alone out
I really think you are undersized on fan/filter or something

air quality is amazing. plus i love looking out the window at 8 foot of snow and opening the tent to a blissful 73 and sunny garden with a light breeze. really helps get through the winter months. winters before growing the air in the house would get so stagnant and dry. the air quality improvement alone is almost enough to justify the electric bill.

Clean the smell. Neighbour is 100% wrong but keep your enemies close. Besides weed there is a target on you and any little thing will give him a reason. Having said that, order sheep or cow manure for the garden. He just moved in and seems like a big piece of shit. If he builds some non permit structure, you can informally remind him later. Pricks like that will mess with your happiness. Document everything.

If it's legal they gotta deal with it. Tell them to buy some air fresheners or something.

I reek like weed sometimes from my room, and walk around stinking like mad sometimes, but tough shit if I reek like weed. I don't like when women wear too much perfume, but I have no real right to complain so I just with it. I don't like neighbors like that, and I let them know it. You'd be surprised how fast you can tame the situation if you have a couple words with them.

I can't help picturing a bushel basket of Christmas tree air fresheners
Easy on the women generalization cause sometimes in the words of Travis Tritt

Besides women rule !

I would say I have to agree with redi jedi here...Best to mitigate the situation if at all possible, should they try a sue you, pretty good chance the courts will side with your neighbour, citing the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their property is being disrupted by your cannabis smells.
I had the worst neighbour who ever existed on the planet, prior to her moving out at christmas 2020,, By far the best day of my life so far when she drove off never to return. I was sued over and over again as well broken into and robbed in the past 15 and she was involved each time.
99 percent of the times it was something she had fabricated in her own mind, then phoned the police...who eventually stopped coming out after 30 or more visits they had made to her place in a 6 month periods?

I was even sued for putting my fence, 4 feet back to the inside of the property line on her side since ,I knew she would have a problem with it no matter what I would have built on that side, so she filed in small claims court and took me to court citing I was encroaching on her property boundary (meaning to close or overlapping her Property line..when in reality I had put my fence absolutely and completely onto my property solely. The judge laughed at her and asked her why she thought I was encroaching on her property. Her first answer was she wanted the judge to award her the 4 feet of property, since to her thinking I was giving up my rights to my property by in-setting my fence 4'-0".
Also she remarked the judge was she thought I should have to pay for fixing up her entire house since I was renovating my house already, and when finished it would make her house look in her words ("like a piece of crap).
The judge looked me right in the eye and chuckled...then said why would Mr Cannadan want to pay to fix up your house??
She responded with, he grows cannabis in his back yard( 25 plants she said) and should be able to afford it (insinuating I sold weed).. The judge motioned to have what she has said struck from the record of the court case and instructed her on what she was allowed to discuss and what she was not. He wanted to hear nothing to do with me growing medical cannabis from her. I did tell him that it was in fact only 6 plants which I had the legal paper work to grow and possess and showed him a pic of my outdoor scrog garden to which his reply was" impressive".

She was also suing for encroachment so the Judge asked her for a copy of the survey she was supposed to have had done which he said would clearly show the encroachment. She did not have a copy of any survey either which turns out she had faked with the help of friends. Long and the short of it all the case was tossed, she was deemed a serial litigant and It would cost her double the normal amount ,going forward for, any court cases she might want to bring up.
I was able to fix a peace bond against her, which was to shut her up for 1 full year and if she breached the bond she would lose the $3500 bucks the judge made her put up.

The long and short of your smell issue is ,,,,you should try and find a way around the issue, and keep the peace with the neighbour.....like maybe venting your grow thru a filtre and then out thru the roof of your house .....over to the opposite side your complaining neighbour is on...
best of luck no matter what you decide

I had my 4 plants out on my patio and everything was fine until my neighbor asked what kind of plants I was growing...they had been there almost 2 months by then but once I said weed, her and her kids lives are now in danger....could I fight...ya...is it worth it?...fuck no

Oh definitely. I just don't want to spend hundreds more on a bigger system. And when it's outdoor in the summer, can't filter the air then.

So you destroyed the plants because they didn't want you growing them?

Tell him the plants are gone bc of his btch attitude. And keep on growing. Or go to park and pick out all shitbags make a big bucket of poo and place as close to him as you can. This should take care of weed smell, all of my neighbours love the smell of fresh weed, my upstairs neighbor never complains and I vent from tent into my living room with no carbon filter, I like the smell. In ontario also.

There is also another approach. With a witness, talk to neighbour that you want to be a good neighbour and you comply with the law 100% (stick to 4 plants), you filter the smell (maybe he bucks up for the new filter) and any more discussion is considered a form of harassment. Then go silent for a long time. Token 12 of beer as peace offering. Any other action will be seen as harassment. If they persist, have it on record with the cops. You have rights as citizen

Have you considered replacing your neighbors with androids?
I would just grow some English Boxwoods so he can add in cat urine to his smell complaint.
Oh put a chicken coop in the backyard and start raising ferrets.
After a while he will reminisce to the good old days when it was just a faint weed smell.
