So this is the company I got my light from. They have for a little while now, been offering a eco version which is priced awesomely(is that a word?). They are on Amazon, Ali, YT and Facebook. Among others I'm sure.

Anyways, I wanted to see what you guys, the DIY guys or guys in the know think of these drivers(which is what is driving the price down)? If you get the light from Ali, a 480w is only $260usd shipped and on Amazon $295usd shipped.

Seems like a great deal for someone who maybe can't afford a $600-1000 light.

The “Luxury” model with Meanwell driver is only $45 more. I would go with the tried and true driver for a bit more.

My problem with the budget/China lights are the specs they claim vs the actual specs. A company like HLG actually has their boards efficiency tested by 3rd party companies. These Chinese/budget models just seem to make numbers up and nobody really holds them accountable.

They are the same boards. Where do you think HLG gets their boards? From Samsung. The same place almost all these 'Chinese boards' are bought from. Samsung. Stop drinking the kool-aid.

Good point. I've just always wondered why Meanwell seems to be the only name in the game. This is the 1st 480w Samsung style light I've seen that isn't using Meanwell. Just kinda sparked my interest.

HLG doesn't get their boards from Samsung, they get the diodes from Samsung and make their own PCB's. Some of the HLG lights also use Inventronics drivers, not all of them use Meanwell.

Budget claims their lights are far more efficient on the spec sheet than HLG. How is that possible if they're using the same equipment?

Stop drinking the kool-aid.

"The LM301H diode carries a PPE of 3.03 μmol/J." Is that what you're referring to? Do you see any efficacy figures on Budget LEDs website besides that?

Clearly you don't know enough about the various diode bins that different manufactures use, to have made an intelligent post. HLG uses only top bin diodes, which most other companies do not, so that's a 15% different in light output right there. Not to mention the fact than many Chinese knockoffs are using fake lm301 diodes in the first place.

I don't think ALL hlg boards/mcpcb are made in house last I checked? Not enough pick and place, ovens to meet demand. Maybe @Stephenj37826 can enlighten us

Definitely go with mw driver option, for the 7 yr warranty alone is worth the extra fifty bucks. If it's actually authentic :-P
We still make a lot in house but Samsung also produces them for us in S. Korea.

Maybe I should have said 'Asian Boards'. Not sure if that's PC or not. sry

The point I was trying to make is they are all supposed to be Samsung diodes. I find it hard to believe that HLG is doing so much business thru Samsung, that Samsung would risk business ties with other customers by only offering HLG good quality chips while others get crap. But maybe I'm wrong, happens everyday..
