Good afternoon RIU. I was watering my plans today and noticed a good deal of mites crawling around on top of my living soil. I am using BAS 3.0, alfalfa straw mulch, and top dressing with BAS BuildAFlower/EWC. They are quite large and mobile, visible to the naked eye. No sign of pests on the plants leaves, stems, or buds in week 6 of 12/12. Would appreciate any feedback here - hoping these are not a pest. Pics are the best I could get.

I really don’t think they are aphids. The plants are thriving and healthy. I’m going to try to get a closer pic, but they look much closer to Hypoapsis than aphids to me.

I got bugs in my tent too. From what I understand you can sterilize your soil by baking it to 180°F but I didn't do it. I only ever see one or two mites so I just crush em between my fingers to avoid using neem which I hear makes weed tastes like a baby diaper. At week 6 of flower you can't do much anyway without risking your buds so you might as well just set a sticky trap or a jar with apple cider vinegar and holes poked in a plastic lid to drown them.

Those critters aren't there because of a healthy grow environment.

I don’t know how much healthier my grow environment could possibly be. I run high quality organic living soil, including fungi, nematodes, beneficial bacteria, mulching, and quality composts. My humidity never goes beyond 58% (even after lights off), the temp range is 66-78, and watering practices dialed in. A healthy soil food web consists of many, many organisms, including miniarthropods and arthropods.

You need to dye them fuckers BROWN..

Why, so you can provide your extremely accurate identification? I’ll pass. Hahaha. I’ll post some pics of my “root aphid” infested bud at day 40 12/12 though! Here you go champ.

Don’t worry, there’s always next time.
looks extremely healthy for a infestation
