White people, particularly men:

No what I said was he told me if I just had a pussy he could hire me. They had a United Nations apprentice class including Asians and there were not many in El Paso. In short they were looking for anything other than white males.
Your post talked about women being hired over men.

Now you want to talk about white men being at a disadvantage to latino men. Cry me a river, man. You find the one place in the nation where a white man is the minority and complain that you weren't treated equally there. What you are complaining about is racial bias, not affirmative action. What you experience is racial bias just like black and Hispanic people experience throughout the US. Yes, you could make a case that your civil rights were being violated if you could prove it. Same problem faced by everybody else who experiences discrimination across the country. That problem isn't with affirmative action

Because they were hiring women over men including Hispanic men. It was called “preferences”. That’s why they sought out Asians and blacks of both sexes. But if there was only 1 spot and 2 candidates and one was white it went to the other guy. That’s just how it worked.

I have zero clue if this was the situation or its just a bullshit thought. But could they maybe have wanted a program for women? I could imagine a bunch of women not wanting to be shown up with everything physical while they learned how to do a new career.

How old are you, boy? Were you in the adult labor market in the early 70’s in El Paso? I’ve heard two ignorant motherfuckers now about this. People going on ignore quicker now.

Shit man I even said I have zero clue.

Edit: And no I was born a few years after that. How many women were in the workforce back then? And hell I really don't even know what the conversation was other than the quick skim I did so if you were being attacked, please don't redirect your aggression on me. I am willing to listen and learn, otherwise I would not say shit.

I've heard enough bullshit about affirmative action and how it "hurt me" from people of all ages. What you describe was a failure of management by hiring unqualified workers and not a failure of affirmative action.

If you were all that great you wouldn't even have been looking for a job.

Dude, I said earlier in this thread that later, by the time I was 30 I even said, I understood this!!!! 3 guys going for a job in 70. If only one was white guess who got the job most of the time? I have way more Hispanic and Mexican friends than I do whites. Look at the demographics. I had nothing against hiring anyone but employers did.

When Kennedy signed the first affirmative action legislation in the 60’s it really didn’t affect shit. The prejudice of employers forced the government, for the good of the country as a whole, to force action. The federally funded apprenticeship programs were encouraged to hire absolutely any group not represented in the ranks. Meaning everyone white business owners traditionally wouldn’t consider. Like the chick who obviously was not physically up for it.

But as a 21 year old veteran I damned sure didn’t like it. I don’t think anyone would.

Edit add: in case anyone would wonder why I went to nursing school there it is. No more consideration for race or sex. I chose an occupation where they need skilled personnel so badly that they didn’t give a shit about anything except your competence and experience.

Fuckdog now on Ignore. Others to follow. I hate asshole liberals too blind to see the truth. They’re as sick, dangerous and obnoxious as Trumpistas. Period. Ignorance is not an endearing trait.

I am guessing the white guy would get it back then.

I think I just came in and tossed out a random thought I had at the wrong time without having read the conversation you guys were having. I am not saying anything negative about you, what you said, or anything else.

Dude, I worked for guys who would make us work short for weeks before they’d hire a “Messkin”. And a black guy in El Paso back then? Government employee. I mean you never saw a black person with a decent job. Like I said AA started becoming forced and enforced for reasons. I hear comments from people on here who haven’t really faced shit in their short lives. That type of ignorance is another stumbling block.

By the way the employers got a lot happier using these cooperative programs with the government supplying part of their salary. If I had been hired I would have been exempt from that. So why would an employer take that on? I just stayed working as a plumbers helper. No white guys were applying for that.

It sucks, I saw a little at a young age with my dad working construction in Michigan back in the 80's (I don't have memories before the 80s).

He had to buy a old beater truck, all he could afford was a couple hundred dollars. It ended up being a foreign make and I remember us taking off the decals on it because it was a Toyota and he couldn't park it on the job site.

Blow me, fuckwad.
There is irony in you keep crying about you, the "poor little white guy didn't get the job he wanted" in a thread that is meant to deride tender white men and their perception of bias against white men.

Affirmative action isn't about hiring just anybody off the street to fill a position in order to make the race numbers. When it is applied in a positive manner it forces otherwise complacent management to actively seek a diverse and qualified work force.

As I said before, if you were all that great you would be sought after, not seeking a job.

Hotrodharley ignored me?

Come on, guy. You had to see what this thread was before you went off about affirmative action...
White guys can be so tender. As if they never experienced hardship and can't stand it when people disagree with what their mommy said. It's a real disservice to kids when mommy lies and tells them how great they are when in fact they are just average.
