so you guys are still fighting about whether UV works or not, and we all know UV works....

What i wanna know if there's some sort of easy-ratio for LED:UV... Like... 25 watts of UV per every 300 Watts of Bridgelux EB 2 or something... Is there?

i use 24 watts of uvb 75% uva 25% in a 4x4x7 tent with 600 watts of cree 3590 cobs. i hang the 2ft pure uv bulb at the top of the tent in between the middle of the two cob rigs.

Been working on a fixture for my next grow, to add T5 UV and some blue, red, and far red (Emerson Effect).

I have 2XQuantum288s on a Slate 2, got another Slate 2 and cut in in half to mount on either side at a slight angle. I designed the brackets to use the far red strips on either end, also angled in slightly. My space is a 2X2.5 tent.

The Slate 2 secures to the top of this-

I've still got a ways to go. Nothing is wired up of course, and I don't have QB11 red strips. They are no longer available and am waiting for a redesign. I may end up going cutter or starboards.

Looking good. I was also waiting on the qb11s but they never came, I ended up buying the rapidled starboards and made my own. Then the next day the qb11s came in stock...go figure. I think they sold out in a couple days though that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Only the blues came in stock, that's when I got mine. No big deal really, I'm wasn't planning on pushing the reds much until flower.

Thanks for sharing,

Are the UV lights on all the time the others are on? How long do you run your UV?

me, i am a hard head, and years ago the guy at htg told me to only run them for 2-3 hours in the middle my 12 hour daylight period. did i listen, nope, i have fried all kinds of plants, but also i have learned which plants can tolerate higher amounts of uv over the years. i like to run them the entire 12 hours of flower, but i alternate in 24/0 veg with a 6500k t5 & a 2500k t5.

The key is to harden plants off to UV over time, starting wherever. Some even start in veg.

i like to start them indoors with the pure uv, then place them outside. what are your thoughts on benzyl salicylate ?

Wondered if you had made your light yet and if so the spacing you tried and the specific red diode you picked and why that rapid led sells.
I am considering them but just in early part of looking into it but I do have the heat sinks already 48 inch long.one inch wide 4 pieces just wondering how many red/far red to use? it is for 8 by 4 area new light build. Have all other spectrum's just need enhanced red-far red.
Thanks

Temps are fine with co2 ....only wish I could reach those temps in my hut n garage area lol.
It's usually 22°C ish but they still grow great for me.
They, whoever they are? say to run led rooms 3 - 4°C warmer than HPS rooms due to lack of far reds in white led fixtures.
@Moflow
I am planing on adding red, funny you should mention it.
Only issue is how much do I need for 40 sq feet grow area?
I do have 650+ watts of 3000K samsung v-2 from HLG and will have
600 watts strip light 4000k for veg too just not sure red will help any with veg any idea or just for flower?
I have four heatsinks coming to make 4 strips 48 inches long just need the strips or kit to make it.
Update on UVB bulbs, have some seeds starting and left em off last day but I can see the plants I used them on are a more darker color, thicker leaves, smell much stronger, shorter but not by much, just very husky, healthy looking.
I do see it can take several days for damage to show up so ramping it up as high as I did was a good test, plants one foot away for at least 6 hours at 64 watts and it is ok, few leaves are bit folded in , keep in mind I worked up to that a bit at a time.
Proof will be in the tomato's I eat and the bud I get will tell me if I am wasting my time.

lol, you still have to assemble all your stuff, it's amazing how much work it takes setting up.
at least I'm like less than a month out from harvesting for the first time in a while after the reset. Gonna be a while till the next round too as my veg room is just ticking over on the amount of light in there now.

Hey, brother! You really don't have to worry about using reptile bulbs. Their UV light dissapears pretty fast and in 70cm distance the UV index is already below 0,5 with a 12% bulb. Only make sure you don't look into the light from a too close distance.
Screenshot_20190521-082014.png

Agromax and Solacure UV bulbs are much stronger, reach around twice as far and are far more dangerous because the safe zone is probably 1,5-2m away from the bulbs.

I've already thought about an on/off switch integrated into the door of my grow area. As soon as the door gets opened the bulbs are switched off. Close it again and the bulbs are switched back on.
I mean a switch like you know from a fridge or from your cars doors or the trunk lid.
Nothing special and already available ..

Would be 100% safe as long as you leave the door a bit open.

I am interested in which reds you would suggest looking at as I am another one HLG won't sell those strips to.
Which cutter model cover red and far red that is best seem to be a lot of choices? Or something like the Rapid LED solder and flux- paste & heating gun or snap fittings(prefer) together to make a strip either which seems kinds pricey no?
I have 48 inch heat sinks 4 for them if I can afford em lol
Your light is gunna slay em

But I understand you better than you may think. My wife's mother also had skin cancer. 2x
Andn with skin cancer in the family, you are predisposed.
Make sure to keep you vitamin D level always between 40 and 70μg. That prevents you from getting cancer.

We all have much too low vitamin D levels these days (usally <10μg) and that allows cell mutations to happen much easier. To have a high enough vitamin D levels it is one of the most important factors to prevent one from getting cancer.
The thing is the skin needs UVB to produce vitamin D. No UVB means no endogenous vitamin D production.
For us in the north or southern hemisphere it means we make only vitamin D in summer and only in the few hours around noon. As soon as your own shadow is half as long as you self you can stand naked in the sun and make not a single bit of vitamin D. Thats a fact!
My mother-in-law is still alive and part of her follow-up therapy is keeping the Vitanin D level always above 100μg.
The only stuff you don't get in enough amounts with your food is vitamin D and omega-3.
Everything else you get with your food.
According to her doctor in the hospital 20.000-30.000IE vitamin D weekly(depends on your body weight) and 1 omega-3 pill every day is all we need to stay healthy.

Are these air temps or top of the leaf temps ?
I would like some red as well, separate, on a separate channel to add as needed depending on what I am growing within a strip light.
I will pick up a lazer temp light and start trying it that way myself of pointing at top of canopy foe leaf temps see how it goes.
Once everything is setup up wont matter I will know then, just for spacing, watts, heights etc .
