i got some seeds coming in to grow it's a dwarf bicolor variety. 2-3feet tall. i am growing them in my 4x4 tent but what i am confused about is because im growing them in my tent how do i go about sowing seeds in containers?

like how many seeds can fit in X size container? i only have 3gal, couple 5gal, 2 7gal's, and 1 10gal. i want to bunch the flowers up but i want them to reach decent size as well. i am pretty sure they are just single heads not the branching type

I am about to start some sunflower seeds inside but will be planting them outside in May. I go thru alot of coffee and save all the containers and use them.

The package says to thin plants when 1" tall to 12"-18", so whats that, 3-5 gallon minimum?

what variety? i read dwarf needs 6" at the very least. mammoth ones need 5gal at least. this of course is for container gardening

1 in a 3gal, 2 in 5 gal, 3 in 7 gal, 4 in 10 gal.
thanks i'll try that out. yea i mean i can put a bunch in pots but i want to get their full potential then later one i can toy around with bunching them up. i read up yea these ones are a "semi branching" variety. if all goes well imma just buy a bunch of saucers and fill the entire grow room up

I grew them in pots then tansplanted last year into a raised bed. Thry have big toot systems. I think 2gal minimum to grow really well. Maybe you can get away with a little less since you are indoors and dont have real sun. And you can feed really hard in pots

what variety did you grow? im running a dwarf variety Little Becka everyone tells me 6" pots but that is only a quart and that feels REALLY small for there root zone. other issue i got going as well is i don't have a bunch of small pots and i'd need to buy saucers along with them otherwise i could easily run them in smaller pots 1 seed per pot. i'll have to check out gardening shops though. i only got 30 seeds in this pack.

i had a question as well. just a personal one i guess; so i was planning to run 1 cannabis plant half the tent then run the other half with the sunflowers. i was wondering in your opinion would it just be better to run the whole tent with sunflowers? issue isn't space it's more so the fact i don't really smoke a lot of weed and i have a surplus amount as is so i can go a grow or 2 without needing to grow more. sadly the seeds are getting older as well so i kind of dont want to keep them in storage for too long.

I'm growing Italian White which grew larger than the stated 5' tall. I am starting them indoors because last year I had alot that never grew when planting directly outside from seed. The roots do not get that large, but with the height you def want a large enough planter that it wont fall over, but inside I guess you wont have any wind to deal with. I would figure 3-5 gallon pots for each plant.

Seeds (cannabis) last forever. I have mne in the fridge. They should be good for a decade or 2.

I dont remember what type sunflowers I had, it was a mix of smaller types. Just some pack of seeds from the store. They were like 5 or 6 feet tall with 6" flowers and some branching.

Not really sure why you would want to grow them in a tent to be honest. Maybe some poppies would be more fun.

im growing them in a tent for 2 reasons. 1. our outside garden is a mess i don't own the house so i have no say in the garden that is my grandpa's stuff and my dads stuff so basically we get very little light due to all the plants shadowing the growing area or no room for much plants. 2. it's infested with pests ( my grandpa doesn't know how to garden and is too stubborn to learn from anyone ) these flowers will be for use in the house for my mom right next to her urn so i want to make sure they are beautiful and pest free.

thanks i'll look into getting a bunch of 3gal pots and then probably just run the whole tent for now with sunflowers. probably use my fabric pots and just buy a bunch of plastic ones ontop of that with saucers

I just looked in my Burpee catalog and they have 3 that appear to be really well suited for planting in pots.

yea i bought the little Becka ones. says 24-36". i bought mine online someone suggested buy from burpee and i have no experience purchasing plant seeds besides cannabis so i just went with it. i decided to run 8 3gal pots and put 1 seed in each pot i may try to run 9-10 if i can squeeze 2 more in but imma just run a full sunflower tent incase some don't germinate. if all goes well imma try out the ms. mars and the teddy bears i had my eyes on those 2 last night but i was like 30 seeds should last me at least 2-3 grows might try to plant some outside as well

You can plant a bunch in the same container and just separate them later for transplanting outside. They're pretty hardy. Which reminds me I haven't gotten any started myself. I've been harvesting seeds every year and just using those. I have a big bag.

You are transplanting them outside later? Some can get pretty big. Had to use a saw to cut this one down last year.

Oh I see you're growing them in pots.

yea im growing in pots because outside we don't get a ton of sunlight at my house per day not even in the summer time plus we have a jungle at our house so they will be shaded even if it got direct sunlight and those are not my plants so i can't just hack um up. our garden is also infested too my grandpa tends to the garden but he isn't a gardener he doesn't really know exactly what he is doing all he does is plant stuff and water them. usually you can see pests everywhere though aphids, leaf borers, sometimes tomato horn worms, lots of japanese beetles as well
