Probably both made in the same factory, both aimed at the lower end of the market.
More gains to be made from the bulb choice IMO.
LOL I thought of that too! (but there different sizes, but prob same basic stuff inside?)

Need one immediately cuz my 1000 watter fried last night!

These are the only two choices that can get delivered today..!

I run 2 ipower lights and neither ballast has given any problems . 5 grows under 1, 6 under the other. Corey is right. Probably a couple of factories making all of these.

I have a Vivosun. It works. No problems. I change the light every couple of grows. Either one will do what you need it to.

Thanks for the input, about 5 minutes after I posted this thread I noticed iPower's lowest setting is 500 watts, whereas the other is 600 watts..

500w is plenty on some hot summer days around here so I choose the ipower to replace my current generic 1000w unit by Hydroplanet

20180915_173523_1537047324455.jpeg My cat checking out new iPower LOL I ordered this sometime around 1 am this morning and here it is.. ! you got to love it:mrgreen:

*edit: works great! it's only been on half an hour lol but assuming it works a little longer than that it's fine. I'm sure both would have been ok. Pretty awesome how it got here so fast!

Hey. Just wanted to let you know that dimming is an option that should only be used if your power goes out and you need to run a generator or something. If you have to dim to keep things cool. You need to focus on your cooling and airflow :) It won't be a problem every now and then. But don't take my word for it.... https://eyehortilux.com/grower-education/how-light-affects-plants/effects-of-dimming-on-spectrum/ Happy growing!

I think most of us are aware of that however you bring up an interesting point, I've heard and thought I just read on the pamphlet that came with new ballast, or somewhere recently? Said to start at maximum and then turn it down when the gas is at proper working temperature and the light will be proper when turned down, but I'm not sure if this is true?

.. that might be an interesting thread somewhere else, in more technical forum because I would like to know too?

Man, that thread would just be a bunch of people arguing with each other about the color of the sky :D Hortilux is the best on the market -- according to the many tests I've read at least -- I have to side with them, considering they've got that (or several) of those light spheres that cost an obscene amount of money. Don't quote me, but I want to say upwards of 250 grand or more. I'm sure they've used that machine to run the tests, which is where they got their data showing that a HPS bulb dimmed at 50% only puts out 40%. MH is worse, at 50% -- only get a 25% return :/ So, you definitely lose efficiency. I can't say that it'll be different with other bulbs, but I have no reason to suspect otherwise. I think I am understanding you correctly in my response. Apologies if you have no idea what I'm going on about. It's been a long night!

Also, let me just same. Dang. I wish I could get free one day delivery. They "only" offer 2-day for me. Not 2-day is in today, mind you.

Every thread, well many threads are just a bunch of people arguing with each other lol, but you get to know the good folks to read here, there's some true master growers here so it's almost worth the flack

I'm not arguing about the light color but I've got to say I'm an old timer with my halides and my sodium's and I grow bud: I leave the more technical applications for people who like to :wall:,, if you know what I mean? (Life's Too Short Jimmy especially from this side of the mountain)

One day delivery blew me away! I'm still a little surprised by it, I guess welcome to the 21th century Jimmy, right! LOL

My name's not Jimmy :) Just kidding. Just giving you FLACK! There certainly is a lot of knowledge available from experienced growers. That probably would be a cool thread. I'd read it. I'm on my 2nd indoor grow and I love my 1K MH/HPS. Electricity is so cheap where I'm at and it's just truly time-tested technology. I don't want to turn this into an LED vs HID thread so I'm gonna back off on that a little. Maybe you could start a thread in the appropriate section and see if it takes off or not. A question I have, that you may know the answer to, is for Bballasts that have 600 watt, 400 watt, etc settings, if you put a 400 watt bulb in there and set it to 400, would it be correct then?

No I'm Jimmy!:bigjoint::peace:

This is not really a thread, I was hoping people would vote for one or the other in the allotted time and then I was going to buy the most popular

But a few minutes after I made the thread I noticed there was a difference in one that I liked and I bought it right away.

I love the one day delivery. Not all items are available for one day here in Portland but Amazon is building a huge distribution warehouse right outside of Portland that will employ thousands of people so I think the amount of items available will go up. I can already use Amazon Fresh to order groceries in the morning and have them dropped off in the afternoon in time to make dinner. Amazon is building their own distribution network. Sunday deliveries. I get many deliveries from people driving their regular cars working as Amazon Flex drivers. https://flex.amazon.com/ It pays $18 -$25. Just a heads up to those wanting to move to legal states and work in the Cannabis industry. You'll make more delivering packages for Amazon.

Yeah, I looked into that, I saw an ad or something. Some good entrepreneurial opportunities are awaiting people that have the skill-set needed to run their own business in logistics, basically. I think they help you get all the vans and equipment etc for something like 40-60k upfront? Remember Uber in its infancy though? It seemed like a dream come true, drivers were reporting how much money they made and how great it was. Then the rug got pulled out from underneath them after they bought a new car and everything. That link looks similar, but it doesn't mention anything about running a fleet of vans. Still, I don't think I'd go into it thinking of it as a career move....Let's face it, a lot of the cities Flex is hiring for, 18-25 an hour is just not enough. Not near enough. :)

Ahh. The difference a nap can make. I now see that you are the OP. LoL. My fault. You know, they should clearly mark these things! JK

I don't get out of bed for under $100 an hour. But I've been in IT for over thirty years. I'm set and semi retired.

Good for you. You earned it, dude. But 100/hr. That's got to be some pretty special stuff. C? Python? You probably are familiar with more than one after all those years of experience.
