QB132’s (x15) in a 4x4... 1050w LED light platform

A veg box & a flower box are a def thing to think about in the future.

I could remove 3 panels from this platform, leaving 12 boards in this 4x4.5 = 48w a sq foot. Then have 4 boards for a clone/veg box leaving the big box for flowering.

What say you veteran growers ...?
That's a fantastic idea. You'll be able to start new clones ready to go in to flower once your flower box finishes.

I bought dimmable drivers ... just in case my girls “can’t hang”
Here it is in her new home.
So what was the total cost to make this 12 panel setup?
I know you said something about this already, but it didn't include drivers and there was multiplication in your answer... si the total is?

12 panels ($133 x3) = $400
2 drivers ($80x2) = $160
Frame metal = $20
Wire = $20

Total ....$600

Honestly, I don’t like the price tag, but I’m hoping to like the results.

I’m glad the mrs doesn’t visit these forums, if she knew the coin I’m dropping I might have to sleep in the new grow box !

Mine handles the books, so I can't pull anything over on her! I have to sweet-talk her when I want to lighten the coffer. But sometimes the challenge is invigorating.

It's not bad. I'm a hps fan through an through but can admit that's not really too much.

1kw ballast : $100
Super hps bulb : $60
Xxl reflector ~ : $180
Then fan an ducting 8f you dont already have it.
So to me that's a great pricetag. Cooling that though, will be a problem for you. 1000 watts is 1000 watts. That will make just as much heat as a 1kw hps.

No... It will make SIGNIFICANTLY LESS heat than an HPS. Because it is MORE EFICIENT, and does not waste as much electricity as heat.

Ran the light for 3 hrs now. Went from 80-100 degrees & leveled off. Zero ventilation, all sealed up fans off. “Worst case scenario”

Damn, this hobby is fun ! Love all the “hands on stuff”

Maybe educate yourself on the matter.
/sigh

A watt is a watt in terms of heat produced. This is known.
He's correct tho, mean well drivers are substantially more efficient than hps ballasts, which = less overall heat output.
That and the type of heat qb's and cobs dish out is more along the lines of ambient vs radiant. However dealing with ambient heat it is not always easier lol.

Watts do always = watts tho @ btus, but there's other things that come into play that tbh make most comparisons virtually moot. They're both wildly different to grow under.

You mean what you do? Your the one who quoted me an started shit. And you were wrong. Now your mad.

How about you educate yourself, or hit that ignore button on my profile.

I'd be thrilled if you, as you say, would just fuck off already.
Thermodynamics seems to be the trolliest subject ever on RIU. There should be a thread for it, how much heat hps vrs led where people could fuck off to and claw at their eyes instead of stepping on whatever thread its mentioned in. OP deserves better than this.

To be clear first, I dig this dude's light he built. Its badass an he did it for a great price. I only said it may be hard to cool since it is still in fact 1000 watts, and 1000 watts of anything is a lot of heat.

Now I've got people a little triggered it seems...

Now to address your comment about ballasts and drivers... your right, HOWEVER, ballasts are typically kept outside the grow area so that heat is a non factor. Drivers are mounted to to light and are a factor.
