Need help choosing drivers!!!

I have 24 vero29 gen7 version c that I want to run in between 90 to 100watts per cob and dimmable!! The two best ways I can see to drive them are running 2 vero's on a hlg185-c1400b, or 5 vero's on hlg480-c1400b??? Does meanwell carry one that can push 6 of these vero's at 1400ma?? Any help appreciated
 
Stick to the hlg-185-1400. 6 would be over 400v per light.
That's where I'm getting a little lost! I know I loose forward voltage the more cobs. What do you mean by 6 would be 400v? Would using the hlg 480 or 600 be less efficient than the 185? If so how much more would it be saving and would it be noticeable difference between them if 24 cobs were running?

I wouldnt look at the efficiency of the driver too much with cobs as chasing efficiency is easier with strips/boards they are all 93-95% anyway.

The C version is high voltage and ive not found a CC+CV driver that i can use so you have to go series, which means high voltage circuits. It doesnt bother some people but having multiple 400+ volt diy fixtures in a damp environment would give me nightmares.

Hey Greenman218,

As you probably know from your research that when you run LED's in series the forward voltages add up. Also, you know these are pretty high voltage chips among the COB's we are interested in at 68V each.

That HLG480H-C1400B driver you mentioned will drive 274VDC and stay in the constant current mode. This is almost exactly right for four of those Veros in series (68 x 4=272). This is the driver I would recommend.

all the recs are on point

high voltage series is the only game in town with the 68V vero Cs and as mentioned you are at the mercy of (slightly) lower efficiency drivers as the 600W drivers arent available in high voltage.

i think the rating on the veros is right around 400V (@welight ?)
 
He said 500v on the SE. Which is the built in holder.
The Se and regular vero29 both have built in holders! The Se has poke in connection and the regular has Molex plug or soder!! I know the Molex connectors are not rated to run in series. I need to know the voltage rating of the holder of the regular vero29 c if using the solder connections!

If it was you buying what Vero c and what driver would you choose to drive them in series on cc driver on how many? Thanks for the help

Vero's are one of the better COBs to run at higher amperages than some of the others

i agree with shimz. you should do 6 of those drivers with 4 cobs each. man that is a ton of light.

just to add also i would consider doing active heatsinks if you aren't already. i run vero29c at 1400ma and even on a 180mm passive heatsink with good airflow those puppies get pretty toasty.

Yes I run the timber Vero 29 at 1400ma x4 the square 125mm sinks which get a little warm to the touch when at full 400w. That's why I bought these sinks as they seem to work very well, And I do have fans blowing for circulating and making strong branches. Also thought of throwing in a couple (4-6)1700k temp but haven't found any good info on if it worth it!!

1700K is just mega heavy in red. 4 out of 24 of them isn't a bad idea.

Just really not getting much blue at all. It's more so lacking in blue than being super powerful red.Vero18-Decor-Spectrum.png
