What? Science guys don't like to shout at each other?
We can talk here about the science and let the screamers yell at each other in the politics section.

The gist of the article is that the cost of wind, solar and batteries have dropped so much that even if fossil fuels don't increase in price, they still won't be competitive.

I saw that. Mass production will bring prices down on the hardware. The biggest drawback has always been storage, so with the cost of that going down too, we will see more solar and wind.

I really like the idea of pumping water up hill. Kind of sort of, but not really like the hydraulic hybrids that are on some UPS trucks. They have to give up 50 gallons of space for the system, but it reduces fuel cost big time. What it does is build up pressure while the truck is running, then uses the pressure to get the truck rolling at red lights. This is with existing transmissions. With out the granny gear, fuel savings will be even greater.
