Hey I am looking to get a small cloning area together
I was looking at buying a premade kit
But I really think I just need a light.
But not sure what kind.
Not trying to spend over 40 bucks
If i do i feel I may as well just get a t5 light cause im slightly familiar with them.

What im wondering
Is there a light that I should look into first?
Do led or cfl work well?
If be hella happy to make a little box string a bungie cord and hang a few cfl bulbs feom it.
If that would work
I'm not trying to get anymore big crazy ads lights
Loomimh for simplest yet effective if anyone has ideas or suggestions if appreciate it

Vegging under 400 watt my
Flower under 1k watt hos

I have mostly used 20w-35w 6500k cfls for cloning, but also done hundreds under cmh and MH. Yet to try them under LED because only my flower tent was LED.

No need to get complicated. But it depends on your goal, 20w cfl over a propagator is enough, until good root formation and then they want stronger lighting. If your working with a big space then that might not be the best way to go.

Imo as long as heat is not an issue the stronger the light source the faster they will root.
You don't want them baking too close to a hid light though... I root my clones under 600w mh with good results and even better results on a window ledge middle of summer lol..

Happy Growing Booooooom!

Build a CFL rig it is way easy to do and can be done for almost no money. Go to Home Depot and get a six foot cheapo extension cord, 2 sockets, two splitters, and 4 daylight 60 watt equivalent CFLs. Mount them how you want I built a little wood rig and covered it in growers tape for reflection. Grew many many clones under that little guy. You can go way ghetto and just hang a couple of CFLs over a five gallon bucket and cove the top of the bucket with plastic wrap. I have seen dudes do this method and it works as well. Many options man but there is certainly no need to spend a ton of money on lights for clones.

I use 2 6500k 42W CFL's over a cheap propagator. Works for me. It's only cloning. No Hi-Tech necessary.

We started using LED t8s instead of t5s late last year. Instead of running 54 watts per bulb, now only run 16 watts. Rooting time didn't change and we just matched the kelvin rating closest to t5s. Our mother room and clone room shares the same space, and the AC couldn't keep up with 48 t5s plus 16 315s. When we changed our bulbs ac had no more problems and we never looked back.
