netcup/hydroton to coco transplanting advice.

Sup guys, long story short after some difficulties i finally got my bubble cloner to produce good results, i use rapid rooters when i take clones and when i see roots start to pop i put them in a 3 inch netcup with hydroton and place in the bubble cloner but my flowering tent is setup using coco/perlite, my initial plan was simply to slightly bury the netcup into the coco but ive heard this can cause issues in some cases due to the difference in localized aeration between the two medias. i dont want to damage the roots by trying to remove them from the netcup but id also like to avoid getting hydroton in my coco mix since i reuse the coco for quite a few cycles and i just dont want too much to accumulate in my mix.

Since this is the first time ive gotten the bubble cloner to work well, it means it the first time im having to tackle this issue, so at this point my plan is to carefully remove loose hydroton without removing plant before transplanting, fill the space with coco to keep consistent aeration, then when i harvest ill try to salvage the netcups and hope any left over hydroton is still within it.

Any other suggestions?

Seriously? Snip the net cup with some clippers/scissors. Easy out. Don't over complicate stuff.
Ive weighed that option as well but id prefer to cut the plant out of the netcup after its finished so i can reuse them and not add them to my list of reoccurring expenses.

Lol. 3" netpots are like $1/ec. Less if you buy quantity. You're making a problem you don't need. Just cut it out or leave it in. There's your options.

First off drop the tone bud, were here as a community of people with the same passion, no reason to be hostile towards each other. This is a place to discuss and learn, not to trash others for the way they chose to go about their business.

Second, every grower is different, maybe you aren't as much of a "recycler" as i am, but i prefer to reuse things as much as possible, its not only cost efficiency, its just the way i prefer to do things in my life- why would i buy paper plates every month when i can buy 1 real plate that lasts forever (or atleast till my stoned ass drops & breaks it ) . And not that i dont appreciate your posts airwalker but i never really asked for advice or opinions on netcup usage, i simply told you why i dont want to do so, the point of this thread was for those who have dealt with transplanting between two mediums to share their experiences, ive read several articles of people who tried to do things the way i initially planned to (putting netcup straight into coco with hydroton still present) and they had bad results, so i was hoping to hear from people who experienced that themselves so they could shed light on what they did to remedy it, or those who have done similar transplants with no ill effect, so if you cant share your experiences and have nothing constructive to contribute to this discussion then please take your baby bottle of hater-ade elsewhere.

For those who aren't sipping the hater-ade: I think im just gonna do a side by side test, planting one directly into the coco with hydroton, and another ill remove as much hydroton as i can before planting, and see what results i get, personally i dont think the hydroton will cause an issue im just skeptical because the only stories i came across when searching this kind of transplant were stories of people that had issues.

Happy growing all!:leaf:

All I'm saying man, is that if you need to get it out of the net pot... Get it out.
okay but i never said i needed it out of the netcup, yes i want to reuse my netcups but i have enough of them that i dont need to remove it at transplant time, i will remove it after the plant has been harvested because at that point i can cut the roots right at the base of the netcup and remove it much more easily with no risk of damaging the plant because its already done.. once again the purpose of this post is to discuss the possibility of potential issues due to the variation of aeration between the two mediums, but you clearly dont seem to grasp the concept.

Also note that the roots will have to adjust to the coco.
You are cloning and vegging in hydro, and then you transfer to coco.
That means that the roots have to adjust to the system.
Both systems have different root-structures.
Will take some days extra, and perhaps - but not sure about this - will create stress.

Nah. Not too much. I've went from hydro to soil and soil to hydro with little stress as long as care is taken not to damage roots.

just wanted to come back and update that i transplanted 4 plants in their netcups with the hydroton into coco and have no ill effects so far, they didn't even take a day to "get settled" theyve had noticeable growth every day since.

I cut the net cups off as best I can...have seen monster tap roots getting choked out in them, when I thought they would be fine....you don't see this until you harvest though....best of luck, buy your shit in bulk and save your $ up front...also try to get the ones with a simple cross for a bottom, instead of multiple webs....

Hi DB and various dudes...
I think the trick is timing things so that the netpot plant has good root growth. Then the roots will hold things together. I went from 1" rockwool/clone to beer cup full of hydroton...and finally to 5"x5" for flowering (E&F). Transplants went smoothly but I wasn't fighting the netpot issue.
