Using Hydroton/Clay pellets in Ebb and Flow

Good catch. When I transferred from the nursery I neglected to reset the timer, so for a couple weeks they were only getting 11/13= pistils appeared. The last thing I checked was light hours. Putting them back into veg hours causes single blade and/or twisted leafs
How in the hell did it take you 2 weeks to realize that they were in flower?

I flood every 6 hours once roots are well established, ~ every 4 hours in veg
Cool! The only thing about the stones is aren't they a lot more weight than the hydroton? I think my floor might collapse with my 80 gallon res under the table too lol. It's a great idea I will keep in mind, thanks for contributing!

I suppose the added weight might be a problem, but when you flood you are getting ~ 11 pounds of water /gallon, so...

Been using them for several years now. There are plenty of nooks and crannies for moisture to stay in and feed the roots

Do these look deficient to you
They beautiful brother. I will most likely start transitioning to those stones. I get great results with the clay but like I said they just constantly erode and leave crap in my tables/res. Thanks for the input.

Does anyone here have any experience using Hydroton in Ebb and flow? I was thinking of switching from Rockwool as there is only so much my neighbors can till into their garden, and I have a garbage bag full of the Hydroton.

I was thinking of filling some baskets and just putting the rooted 1'' cube in the basket with Hydroton. However as I've never done that before wondering about some tips, like how many times per day to flood, and should I cover the table with black plastic, etc. Anyone had good success with Hydroton on Ebb and Flow table?
I use clay for seed runs and pheno hunts. Its pretty good. You can flood often which is nice and once you clean them when you first buy them they are easy to reuse. I have had the same 3 bags in use for years. I have lots of pics in my thread, just scroll past the SoG stuff.

Something like this check valve after each pump before the T. So my table will only drain out the mushroom siphon valve and not the pump as well when it turns off. Not a big deal to prevent pump failure.
With the balls you should be ok if a pump goes down if caught in 12 hours, I’ve went 24. If you don’t let the pump drain I’m not sure how you wouldn’t have sitting water?

It is a device that you push a drain hose up into, and set the level you want the table to start draining at. First you cut a hole in your table and then you install this thing.

LOL ok I got ya. I call them ebb and flow fittings and thru Hull, and exactly what I use. So if your water level is kept at say 2” (mine’s at 4”) and you put a check valve in the pump you’ll always have 2” in your tray.

No, the way it works at least on my table - is it fills to 3 inches and then drains completely. Not sure what you are referring to. The check valve in the pumps will simply mean that they won't also drain.

Mine look the same, so ya not sure how they work, my tray if I didn’t allow the pump to drain back would stay at the height of my drain, that’s adjustable up or down to control fill level.
