Spots and yellow leaves

Hey guys,

My plants are in week 5 veg. I have some yellowing and brown spots showing up on some of the lower fan leaves. I noticed them last week but didn’t think anything of it. This week it seems to be getting worse.

Last week I added a little too much CalMag about .4EC so I added water to the res to bring it down.

Feed this week CalMag at .3EC, Sensi Coco A&B at .8EC and then b52, voodoo, root exc, great white and z7

I’m allowing the pH to swing between 5.4 and 6 but never goes under or over.

Any ideas?

What is your total EC? (PPM as well if you can do the conversion.) :)
Your PH seems fine.

The second picture looks like a potassium deficiency to me possibly.

Starting tap water is .2EC 140PPM (700 conversion) and total EC last week was about 2EC 1400PPM but I brought it down to .9EC 630PPM by the end of the week. I think I may have over nuted and locked something out? What’s the best stuff to buy to increase the potassium levels?

I’m also noticing yellow coming from the new growth

I'm not to sure what would increase just Potassium. Your base nutrients should do it for you (Sensi A & B). N-P-K, where K=Potassium. So I would increase base nutes a little, or increase which of the Sense A or B that contains higher K.

After about a month I think you can be feeding 900-1200PPM range. Although I would caution going slowly and doing some more research before just throwing more in there.

Just use a quality, nicely buffered nutrient, and keep flushing.
You're fine :bigjoint:
Good luck

I ran some pHd water and z7 through the system last night and bumped the A&B up a small bit.

Looking better already. Thanks guys (sorry about the pic, need to figure out how to take pics with the HPS light)

I will give that a shot thanks, I tried with one light on but I still got the red light coming across. I have a t5 for veg I might throw in to shed some natural light. And learn to take a decent picture :)

Ok I’m having more issues and the problem seems to be spreading up the plant and it’s killing off most of the large fan leaves going up the main stem.

Iv never had this problem before and the only difference I can think of is I’m adding CalMag. Would it be to much CalMag and it’s after blocking itself out? pH is never below 5.5 or above 6.2. Res at the min is 1.1EC 770ppm. Sensi A&B Coco were added at about .8EC 560ppm and CalMag at about .2EC 140ppm.

I’m currently flushing the system with pHd water. Any ideas what this could be?

Holy shit I get the same damn thing you have. Same EXACT thing and I use B'cuzz mix and R/O water. It happens so fast you almost don't notice it and then BAM, all curled up and dead. It happens with almost all the nutrient companies I have used. GH, Fox Farm and Emerald Harvest. I just started using Dyna-Gro and it hasn't happened yet with 2 weeks of use. I'm going to be trying a free sample of Megacrop this week so that will add to my experiment.

Starts from the bottom just like yours. Just a few spots and then its dead/dying in 2 days. All dried and curled up. Can't do shit about it. For me it starts about 3 days AFTER I feed them. I would love to help you but I have been looking for a solution to this for a while. I hope you get some help for this and if you do please let me know :blsmoke:

Flush dude. Flush IMHO
Calcium's brown spots. Magnesium is yellow leaves. Nitrogen tox, is full, deep yellow fans.
I think you've been fertilizing pleanty.
Flush it clean.
Get the ph right.
Then if it needs it later on, top it up with nutrients.
You're overdoing the feed IMHO
Id really be sus on the calmag. Especially if its a 2,0,0. Or a 4,0,0.
Good luck
Hope it improves.

Defo thinking down the line of Calcium. Where I think I messed up was on my last run I was using RO water and had a few deficiencies. I was told it was due to calmag as RO removed it from tap water. So I went ahead and got some CalMag. Now with this run I went back to tap water but I still added CalMag. So essentially there is CalMag in the tap water, Sensi coco adds more calmag for coco and then im adding more calmag to top it off.

Thanks Tim, I’m flushing as we speak. I filled a 350l res with pHd water and left the other 250l res empty. I have the Flood pump in the 350l and the drain pipes are in the 250l res. So it’s going to Flood from the fresh water and drain into a diffident res keeping the 350l clean. I set it to feed twice last night so hopefully that’s enough of a flush. I will add some base nutes later tonight and go from there

Not gonna say this is what you have but it really looks like calcium def, my other guess is to much potassium. You may have locked it out and keep adding more trying to fix the problem.
Do you meet all of this?

Or this?

FLUSH and start from scratch...
Yep the photos in the first link are bang on. Exactly the same. I think I defiantly messed up with the CalMag. It’s getting too much from everywhere.

Im flushing right now so I’ll be starting a new lower strength feed tonight.

Thanks for the links man I’m going to keep them safe

Shit sucks haha. What happened to your girls after? Did they completely die off ?

I think iv nailed it down with the thanks to others input.

The links posted look the exact same as my leaves and when I think about it they have been getting way to much Calcium. I defiantly think iv locked them out because of the dosage. I’m going to start again from fresh with a lower feed and NO calmag haha. Will keep you updated.

Did you supplement CalMag at any point? I know when I did the last run with RO water and Sensi Coco i has having minor def but noting like this. Went away for 2 days and came back and boom everything was dying off.

I've been adding 2.5 ml per gallon of CaliMagic from GH. It has lower N so I thought it would be better with my R/O setup. My R/O reads 10 ppm from my meter but I have a cheaper Eco testr and it only goes by 10's. The CaliMagic adds about 100 ppm per 5 ml used.

I live in Florida so I have to use R/O no matter what. It's an old Spectra Pure 90 with the membrane and 2 filters. Tests at 10 ppm and 7.0 ph. I was told to always use a Calmag product but I will stop now because supposedly the Megacrop nutes don't need it.

I've used Fox Farm, GH 3 part and Emerald Harvest with the CaliMagic and all 3 have given me problems like yours. Switched to Dyna-Gro 2 weeks ago and nothing has died yet but they slightly burned at 600 ppm after 3 weeks of veg. I put the usual 2.5 ml of CaliMagic with the nutes. I'm guessing, like yours, the CalMag is the problem.

The plants would die only if they just started to flower because ALL the main fan leaves would fall off. Usually within the first 2 weeks. If they had a few main fan leaves living near the top they would usually make it to the end but the yield would suffer greatly.

Hope you nailed this because it has to be the same thing. The leaves die the exact same way as yours and look exactly the same while dying. I don't own a phone capable of taking pics so I was never able to get much help because of it.

My new experiment will be to leave the CalMag out and keep a close eye on things. Let me know how it goes :blsmoke:

Are u supplementing manganese?
Yeah I was adding in calmag at .2EC before the base nutes. I understand now the CalMag supplement is only really for RO. Iv just mixed up a new feed with only Sensi Coco A&B @1EC. I’ll see how they get on and then add some Big Bud coco if they're showing improvements
