Another "is it ready" thread

Ok, kinda...I have this unknown sativa. These pictures are at 53 days. Trichs starting to get cloudy. Of course lots of clear trichs on new growth. I'm thinking 2 more weeks at an even 70, and more specifically 71-73 days as I harvest over the weekend. I guess my concern is how do I know this isn't one of the super long flowering sativas? Leaves are starting to turn more lime green, so I suppose that's an indicator they're getting close.
Thoughts/Opinions? Thanks in advance. 20180301_191112.jpg 20180301_191106.jpg 20180301_191043.jpg 20180301_190939.jpg 20180301_190910.jpg 20180301_190840.jpg

Lots of diamonds. From the pic, but i realise pics do no justice to trich pics with flash on. They look good man.

Youre prob on point in your time frame. Enjoy a free easter for the next two weeks hunting the foliage for those little white and amber easter eggs!

@GeneBanker pardon the tag but you're the only one who replied previously. So the pics I posted the other day were just a few I have in 5 gallon bags. I also have an SOG in a 5'x5' sealed bed. Well I goofed up the other day and watered them with too strong of a nutrient solution. I noticed maybe 20-30 minutes after I watered and immediately hit them with the plain water to try and dilute. So it seems the SOG took exception to this. The leaves went yellow pretty quick and it kicked in yet more new growth and even some foxtailing. The buds still seem healthy, so I'm planning on riding them out til my planned 70 days, which is just another week. From the pictures, is there anything I should watch for or that you recommend? Is another week ok with this new growth or do they now need to go longer? The trichs were fairly cloudy before, but it's tough to see with all the new shit. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies. 20180308_062111.jpg 20180308_062034.jpg 20180308_062041.jpg 20180308_062009.jpg

Another thought: It's possible that this wasn't completely caused by the nutes, as the same night I watered, I cut an hour of light time and raised my lights a few inches. Maybe I'm overreacting.

Without a microscope or loupe you will never know for sure. And that's just a fact.

This is why I think weed was less strong back in the 60's and 70's. We didn't look at it on a molecular level to find out just how ripe it is! "Oh it sort of looks ready"

I would wait. Wait until you see some autumn colours coming through on the leaves and make sure you're just straight water. Flush flush flush.
10 hours of light and 14 dark if you're getting impatient.

Im so sorry man. Ive been buried in my harvest this week. Ive been trimming 12 hours a day last three days, and my night job. The color is fine i prefer mine to end a little lighter. If you started blooming nutes the day you flipped likely its N deficient which is ok. If it bothers you, you could do a half strength veg nuting and it prob clears in three days.

I cant see the foxtail. Some phenos foxtail inna good way. Some do a funky foxtail from light or heat stress late late in bloom. I think you have the second option, but again i dont see the foxtail clearly. As stated above loupe it.

No worries man. I've just been keeping a close eye on the ladies and they are fine. The foxtailing was very minimal. I have a decent microscope, the problem is with all the new growth and fresh trichs, it's hard to see any of the older growth. I feel like it's just going to keep doing this. We'll see. I'm checking them every day. The frostiness is insane. Here's a pic of a couple little foxtails. I've had heat induced foxtails before, so I'm not worried about these.

I know some say take pictures without a flash, but in my opinion they come out much better with the flash on. You get a clearer depiction of the trichs and how they are stacking up. Plus I think the diamond effect is just cool.

Amber in a trich is no indication of anything than age of that specific trich... or a root problem if suddenly trichs start turning amber en masse. The trich has simply lived out its life span. Thats all.

As the trichs age new ones come along. The best indicator that a plant has finished is the swell. Buds have fairly steady growth rate through the weeks until they suddenly swell up. It is very noticable.

Once that happens the plant is basically "done." However, if the plant is healthy it will continue to live and buds will start growing again. New pistils and "foxtails", which are just new calyxs growing through the old ones. Sometimes stressful conditions will start fo tails early... because the plant is stressed and confused.

I one took an 8 week northernlights strain to 14 weeks waiting for 80% amber trichs. Just didnt happen....

Go by the swell. Once the flowers "explode" let the plant go another 10 to 14 days and then chop.

Also, the claim that more amber trichs = heavier high or couch lock is... well... mostly bs. I did an experiment. I harvested a few buds of a plant with only cloudy trichs and then later from the same plant harvested buds that were mostly amber trichs. Cured them all and then had some hardcores test them over several days... asking if they could tell the dif between the two. Thats a 50/50 shot. And guess what? The overall result was 50/50 wrong to right, which only indicated that my friends were just guessing.

Fact is the human body isnt sensitive enough to tell the difference in trich ripeness.

Although one friend did guess better than the others. He was about 75% ... and he confessed that he could taste the difference, which i believe because it makes sense. Just as we can all taste the dif in ripeness with fruits i suspect that such could be true of weed.

Anyway, watch for the swell in the caylxs in the buds. They tell the true story...

Excellent information. Looks as tho my time frame was right on point. Looks like I have a busy weekend ahead.

This is flat out wrong. Anecdotal support of your theory through "hardcores" is not enough to say science and the grower consensus on this subject is "B.S". This is bad advice and goes against everything almost all growers know. Shame on you, stick to roses.

Yep...here we go... because i call BS on the "bro" science of amber trichs people are gonna freak and demand that i quote real science to dispute their "bro" science. So... i say quote some real science to support your bro science. And round we go. Its not the first thread...

Anyway, my experiment was hardly scientific. No doubt. But... it was a good one and it led me to question the bro science instead of accepting it blindly.

So OP... youre going to find a lot of that here, which ends in confusion. Best thing is to grow and let YOUR experiences be YOUR guide.

Or follow the herd...

Thats the choice for us all... until real research is done on this plant. Thanks to Canada and Israel that is on the way...

It's your choice and thread man, just don't call what many people believe B.S due to your "bro" research with the "hardcores". Just the fact that you used these two words says enough.

Should have just said let your own grow be your guide instead of calling proven methods B.S. Good thing you are here to question all of this and make it straight for us with the hardcores, lol.

I have to agree with @Gquebed to a certain extent, especially with newer growers. Too much emphasis is put on the trich's colour when deciding on a cutting them down. Looking at the overall formation of the buds, pistils, trich's in conjunction with the advised flower time should all contribute to the final consensus.

I don't agree with the whole harvest at 50/50 theory, as I find the buds usually have much more maturing to do. Although I have seen buds pulled with a mix of white and orange hairs ... some people prefer this, other times it could have been pulled early for any number or reasons.

To OP, She looks like she is almost there! I would give her a few more days, maybe 2-7 days.

I stated my opinion. Thats all it is. Same as you. You can dislike it or not. But you dont have the right to tell me i cant state it.
