you building LEDs yeah? I'm looking to make a switch to LED this summer to battle the heat, and then use my HPS lights during the colder seasons. I know buying a prefab light is more expensive than making it myself... but i literally have enough hobbies and don't have time to learn to do something new lol.

If you HAD to buy a prefab LED, which ones would you be looking at? I run 600w HPS now, and generally my area of coverage needed is 5x4. I have about 7' ceilings.
Timber grow lights make quite a few models with quality components other then that there are quantum boards prefab not exactly pretty though . You are already running on the low side most say you need 50 watts a sq ft with HPS. 30 watts a sq ft is what most recommend for LED. But I would say around 450 watts of quality led will match a HPS doubt your going to find a prefab designed to run 450 watts in a 4x5 though. This is designed for a 4x4 but still uses 600 watts http://timbergrowlights.com/redwood-vs/ So sounds like to me that if you want to shave off some heat you might have no other choice but to custom build.

appreciate the info. I'm not concerned with the aesthetics of the light.... as long as it does what its supposed to do i'm totally happy with it lol. 50watt/sqft would be nice... but my current set up won't handle the extra heat with all three sections going. I've been happy with the 600s though honestly. and i guess i'm just estimating that i'm usually 5x4, but could be smaller at times. I did have to add an extra light for my two oversized bushes on one end of the flower room this run... one just wasn't cutting it lol. running them at 400 apiece right now, gonna bump them up to 600 apiece next week. so 1200 into 4x6 is about perfect then.

i guess i'm just gonna have to get an A/C for the room this summer instead of learning a new skill with the LEDs lol. I just don't have the time to invest. too much else goin on!

my buddy has been running the SPYDRx lights, and he's been loving them. are you familiar with that company at all?

They are good lights from what I have seen. Seems like they have been upgrading LEDs threw the years so they are pretty efficient. 330 watts for a 4x4 is the lowest I have seen for that space. Other then seeing some grows with them I really don't know much about the company. But that would cut down on the heat for sure in your area.

I just watched some comparison vids on youtube with the spydrx lights... i'm pretty convinced on them. gonna see if i can find some comparisons on those vs the timber grows

Are you sure its a bug problem? I had the same thing on of my plants last grow, didn't have any bugs. Bottom of the picture..20171107_144417-1.jpg I assumed it was a ph problem but I honestly don't know.

It is for sure larva there are tons of them when you turn up the top soil. Added some sliced potatoes to the top of the soil today, supposedly you leave them there for a few days and the larva will migrate to the potatoes to feast. Then you just remove the potatoes after a few days along with the larva. I figure what the hell I have tried just about everything else that would be considered organic. Guess time will tell.

Root aphids hey, not nematodes or fungus gnat larvae but underground aphids ? Shame! But at least you got frass on the way, that right there, will improve your game from here on out and should bring a marriage of benefits.

I would have to say the frass was a big old fail. No sooner then I top dressed a plant with it a Fungus Gnat landed on it and took a big old dump or laid some eggs maybe. Will not be buying anymore insect crap for my grows. Not worth it if it doesn't repel insects.

the frass itself does not repel the insects. it's like a defense triggering method for the plant. it senses the chitin and thinks there are bugs present and goes into a defense mode. the frass itself is a great soil amendment. 2-2-2 NPK. slow release, takes time to break down. it's good shit. it's not meant to repel bugs like neem seed meal does.
