Coco coir

Could someone tell please what is the best brand of coco to buy? I hear all kinds of shit about every company and there salt issues. So what is the best dam kind of coco to buy? This is my first time growing in coco. After research I come to find every company processing coco sucks. So what brand is everyone using if they all have shitbag reviews.

Roots Organics is good. Fox Farms is really good, but pricy. I would think that anything your local hydro store has is going to be good. They're not going to have stuff that HD and Walmart has, like Scott's. Roots Organics isn't expensive, so I'd just go with that.

You can also order Coco coir on Amazon. It's really light, compared to soil. You can also clean, and reuse it after each grow.

I ordered some Black Magic from HD online store and shipped to store. Neat price and label states desalinated. Appeared well ground with very chunky perlite. I mixed it with a two part organic soil and one part worm castings. Then three parts BMagic. Hydro products are hard to get some places.

Really? I didn't think Black Magic was a specialty product. I would've imagined that HD or WM would always keep it on the shelf.

IMHO, the soil isn't nearly as important as the nutrients added after the fertilizer is expended. Scott's would probably be fine as well. As long as it's not some cheap generic soil.

I think the only thing i know of him was the quote about Hillary being a green goblin and that he had seen her true form. Gotta love a good ole crazy
Edit because I can't text on my phone

i gave up trying to get good coco for a good price. i just buy what i can find cheap, put it in a tote, soak it good, then dump it into another tote i drilled a lot of holes in, and flush it with the hose for a couple of hours. let it dry for a day, then back into the first tote, add a couple of gallons of water with a double dose of cal mag in it, and give that a day or two to soak in and dry out a little.

Now that all that shite is mixed into your coco how the fuck can you work out how much to feed or water the plants. Good way to burn roots and fry plants. Perlite and coco is fine, both are inert mediums. You are no longer able to treat your medium as hydro. more like soil now.
Sorry if that's rather blunt but hey lol.

Aight time to hijack the thread a bit. Assume I've never even held coco before. (Because I haven't) I'm going to toss a couple autos in the veg room because I can. What's the best pot to get and is it a big deal if I germ in a jiffy plug and go straight to a 5 gallon pot? I have never run a complete run in soil and hate the thought of it but certainly will not use a space in my rdwc for autos. My thought is I can keep my dwc feeding habits tweaked to fix a tad and get by. Plus who knows I may love the dirt looking stuff and switch to drain to waste. Basically I'll figure out the coco brand and treatment part but what pot do you recommend and can I not repot. Everything else I feel good about figuring out. And if I don't oh well it's a couple freebie autos

go out and get a big bag of perlite. mix about 25% into your coco, people say all kinds of stuff about coco, but its not really hydro, and while you can run it straight, i've found you get a lot better results with the perlite.
5 gallon cloth pots are pretty good sized, find yourself something to set them in when you water, and put a couple of good size rocks or blocks or w/e so they can drain good, then you can set them back in their spot. or, if you don't plan to move them, i've found 12 quart dish tubs work pretty well. put a couple of bricks in each one, set your plants on the bricks, and use a shop vac to suck out the drainage water. or you can go so far as to put a nipple on each pan, hook it to a hose, and run it to a floor drain, or a bigger catch pan.
coco has its own little tricks and treats, it eats cal-mag like candy till you get to about the third week of flower, then...it doesn't.
you have to ph coco to about 6.1 or you're going to get lockouts.....lot of little things to learn. its way more stable than dwc, and way faster than soil, but you do have a learning curve ahead of you

Right on. Sounds about like I'd expect. These are really just so I don't eat up a rdwc site with autos. So I figured a couple.bags in a couple.runoff tubs shoved to the front side of the room so I can get to em and I'll be peaches. I'd like to just set a timer to run 5 minute watering cycles 5 times a day to waste but I'll be honest I don't know if I feel like putting in that much effort. What would you do for watering cycles in a day. One good heavy watering or more perlite and a few good soaks?
