A soil experiment I'm going to try next grow.

I have been thinking of an idea for a few weeks for my next grow.

Fox Farm Ocean Forest is a "dirty" word I know ;) but for what I am going to try it will work.
ffof is a hot soil. When I use it and do a short veg on a plant I feel there is still to much nitrogen in the soil when I flip to flower.
I am going to start seedlings in starter pots then move them to 3 and 5 gallon plastic pots of ffof with 10-20% added perlite and veg them for 2 or 3 weeks.
My goal is to spread some roots and get the web going.
Then after vegging for about 2 or 3 weeks I'm going to cut them at the base, cut out a hole and add a new seedling.

Sort of a no till situation where a small amount of roots have been spread through the pot and have given the web a chance to develop for the new seedling that is about to go into the pot.
I'm going to try it on a few pots next grow just to see what happens. It may just be an added 3 or 4 weeks of time with no real benefits but I want to see what happens.
I'm doing it to create the early stages of the web.
I'll probably do a few pots of my own soil mix and try it with those also.

Can it be beneficial or detrimental?

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

Happy Growing!

honestly, this just sounds like a waste of time to me. you'd be much better off using a living mulch IMO. then just cut the grass, dig your hole, and plant in. no need to overthink things. just let them happen :) . often times the more we try and do, the more we forget that these plants don't need our help growing. they only need us to make sure the soil has adequate food and water. they will do great on their own!

and i'm not sure that FFOF is all that "hot" really. i don't think anyone uses it to go all the way through flower with a water only style grow. usually they fight pH imbalance because there isn't enough lime to carry the mix all the way through, and i would be willing to bet money that your hand made soil (good recipe depending) has far more nutrition in it than FFOF.

Yeah! I considered it a waste of time. Took me a couple of weeks to post the idea because I wasn't sure if it was worth the time.
I'm new to making my own mix, so far so good, learning a lot each time I mix a new soil.

Hey man try this.... if you like experimenting
I mix horsepoop that I collect from open place not the stable so its without horsepiss.
I make it wet to make it a homogenous mass then I mix it 1:1 with neutral potting soil not pre fertilised. + 10% perlite.
As ferts I use Rudolf Steiners stuff like horsetail tea and stuff like that.
At least outdoors I need no extra fertilizers. And the taste is out of this world compared to hydro for example.

Peace
