DNA Genetics - Rocklock & LA Confidential

Spend the bucks on the good genetics they said...

And so... I did, after a colossal fuck up that burned up my clones. I bought 6 Rocklock fems and 6 LA con fems for $260.

I'm not impressed. Not at all. It seems DNA are just pollen chuckers like all the rest.

All the seeds the popped within 24 hours, which did impress me. Only 4 of the 6 LAs survived, leaving me 3 phenos and a runt that I have to keep on a milk crate. Aside from the runt, the vigor is good. Grows like mad. But it won't yield for shit. the pics are 28 days in. So no complaints about vigor... it's just an unstablized strain that won't yield. Hope the smoke is good.

I kept the 4 most vigorous of the 6 RLs. 3 Phenos. Again, unstabilized. I think I have a herm already. Look close at the bud close up. The pistils have receded. Haven't turned colour. And I can't find nanners. So I don't know what to think. But they're strong growing fuckers and they will yield great.

Anyway... maybe this is what comes from fem seeds. Dunno... my first go with them. One this is for sure... won't buy DNA again.

I tried alottttt of breeders and DNA gave me my best phenos. DNA is foreal. To be honest i feel your pain, you need to pop many seeds from many strains from many breeders to fall on a good keepers!

DNA chocolope kush is not stable i had 6 diff phenos on 6 beans lolll but some are really interested. Found one HUGE yielder and really potent and another one who smell and taste orange as not possible.

DNA chocolope seem stable i easily falled on a chocolope pheno on first pack.

GHS lemon skunk pretty stable i only had 1 and same phenos over 2 packs. I recommend if you grow for quality over quantity. Money cropers wont like.

GHS cheese have diff phenos but found my best cheese phenos from them.

Serious seeds ak47 stable and fire( i heard there is a cherry pheno but never had)

Sensi seeds Jack Herer if you an amateur of jack you'll find something worth it.

Good luck

Ive been growing the AK for years. I cant stop. Its that good. And the seed i had was super consistent. Out of a few hundred beans i only ever saw 3 phenos and they were so similar it didnt matter. The few i have left im going to try and breed. Same with the white russian i have.
Guess thats what im used to. Spoiled...lol

Well it sure is starting to smell nice! I look forward to trying it.
Just wanna echo everyone and say you won't be disappointed with LA Con, incredible for sure. It isn't a large yielder though so what you're experiencing is in fact genetic. Your buds look pretty big for them to have been seeded, looks good for week 4. You may just be paranoid is all, and I don't mean that as an insult by any means! You said this is your first time with DNA strains and you've been growing AK47 for a while. The Rocklock and LA are much different than the AK, especially the LA Con. The LA is typically short and bushy and doesn't stretch much, but damn does it throw out some golf balls. Done multiple runs with LA, both in and outdoor with great results all around. Is it possible that perhaps you're expecting similar growth to the AK47 you're familiar with? I'm thinking that may be the case because the pictures you posted show some pretty healthy and good looking plants!

Very much interested to see how the grow finishes out for you though. I have a feeling that you'll be pleasantly surprised with the LA after all is said and done. Can't comment on the Rocklock unfortunately. Best of luck with the grow my man!

Im not sure what to expect for quality of bud or potency. I dont mind being surprised or disappointed by that when trying new strains. What my carping was about is that for such a celebrated breeder, DNA evidently didnt bother to stabilize these strains before putting out the seed, which takes a few generations....time. i mean 3 phenos out of 6 seeds, for both strains.

Anyway, the rocklock smells super sweet. Not piney or skunky... it smells like bubblegum. As for the LA... sameish... smells sweet but not as strong...

Ohh ok I understand now, I still have a lot to learn with breeding so I neglected to realize that 3 phenos from 6 seeds isn't the most stable. But don't some seed banks do this on purpose to encourage pheno hunting? TGA is the main one that comes to mind, I remember Huckleberry having like 4 phenos out of the 10 seeds I got but then again they were regular seeds. When I read stable I always thought that meant just the hermaphoditism being bred out but it would seem I'm mistaken?

As for the LA's smell, it's rather subtle until it's dried and cured in my experience. Never really smelled much on the plant but after a good cure it has the sweetest earthy aroma to it, like smelling compost or quality soil. Making me want to order some of their seeds right now in fact xD

Seed banks and breeders are two different things. Seed banks distribute seeds for breeders but most breeders will sell direct.
Breeders like to create different strains it's what they do but most don't take the time to stabilize their new strains.
And that's frustrating for Growers because you never really know what you're going to get when you pop their seeds. And at 20 bucks per seed like I paid for DNA genetics who can afford to pheno Hunt? Lol

Some people like more variation, some breeders actually do this on purpose so you got more to choose from when doing selection.

DNA is in bed with Tweed...just saying. Would be interesting to see how yours turns out compared to what they sell.

I can understand that.
But im worried about finish times... timing for the next gang of 8 to start up ( i veg and bloom in the same space). Different phenos mean different finish times, right?

Speaking of which from what I've read the LA phenos differ greatly in finish times. Any idea on that?

Same with the rocklock. The breeder says about 55 days but what I've read on some grow logs is that some phenos go 75.

To be honest, id fucking like when i buy a pack of girl scout cookie to get a girl scout cookie... If u was poppin 6 seeds and those 6 was same exact phenos i would know "ok i know i have girl scout cookie here". I popped 6 chocolope kush recently and all 6 were diff phenos. I got one who smell and taste orange as fuck, can i really tell ppl "hey wsup this is chocolope kush"... There is the probs with non stabilizated strains. U always finish with an unknown strain.

A++

And so the chopping is done. A pitiful Harvest it was... the four LA Confidential plants netted me a total of 8.5 Oz. That was likely due in part to some over-watering problems early on, but it would not have done that much better... I don't think those for plants would have yielded one pound through a completely healthy grow.

But more disappointing than that was that the LA Confidential is crappy smoke. I know it smelled quite nice while it was growing but it tastes like shit for smoking even after a three-week cure.

The Rocklock did much better. I got 20 oz off the four plants. Not bad...
And it turned out to be a very heavy hitter , smells great (spicey sweet) and is a very smooth, tasty smoke. Just like it smells.

But at the end of the day neither of the strains came close to any of the any of the hype. I am disappointed on all counts with the LA Confidential and mildly satisfied with the rocklock...

Wont spend any more money on DNA genetics though... that is for sure.
