First Nations demand control over cannabis sales

You live in what is possibly the fairest and most 'equal rights' country in the world, you have an advantage most people on this planet don't. Natives deserve every right to make their own rules on their own land. If they want to grow weed and sell it to other Natives on their land, so be it. I would only call it unfair if they try to sell medical MJ to Canadians and if that is there plan then I agree with you, it's not fair to let them grow and distribute it without proper licensing with the feds.
Cmon man its pretty darn clear that they are going to sell to non-natives. Just look at res cigarettes.
What a joke this is.
Theres a difference in rights, and abusing pussy govt

I can't buy native cigarettes and neither can you. Sure we can get anything we want illegally but that's not the point. Natives will not be allowed to produce and distribute MJ without going through the federal process. It's the reason we can't buy their alcohol and cigs or gas and the same will apply to MJ.
Why would you think our government is 'pussy'? This is the same government that is pushing forward pipelines and legalizing MJ. You might be referring to our previous government with Harper but regardless, it's never an easy job pleasing a country full of whining bitches.

Dude anybody can go buy rez cigs.
I can see the rez here out my work window. 12 smoke shacks in a 4km stretch. Not that big of a reserve.
I can go there right now and buy any kind from Putters to Dumaurier.
Also canbuy gas at rez 20mins away for about $0.10/L cheaper than anywhere else. (Dont get same price as natives but def cheaper and they nake $ off me)

They even sell $12/lb Walleye haha

When i call the govt ‘pussy’ its cause theyre scared and never stand up to anybody. If they keep just giving complainers n protestors anything they want then things will never change.(or keep changing for the worse)

Natives aren’t immigrants...this was their land for millennia before it was stolen from them.
I was referring to others but if you want to split hairs then you might want to take some ancient civilization classes. Heard of Pangea?Cradle of Life? You seem to have a hard time grasping that no one originated from here at one point so technically we're ALL immigrants

Dude, we’re not talking ancient Mesopotamia here. I’m talking about in less then 200 years we almost wiped out a whole race and their culture. Approximately 18M (+/-) natives were thriving here for 1000’s of years before any European’s set foot on this continent. You make it sound like it’s ok because history says that’s how it goes. That’s like saying it’s ok for Russia to just annex Crimea, or the US to invade Afghanistan and Iraq...cuz that’s just how nation building goes.

Not sure if I'm wording this right, but come someone tell me what our landrace strain is here in good old Canada?...I've been waiting for someone to say this...I guess gb said something as well about it being part of the culture.
I have no idea if this would be one, but back in the 70's we used to hike in the Gatineau mountains and we occasionally came across some outdoor. It looked uncultivated and did not have a super taste or high. We called it Gatineau Gold. o_O

Would that be considered indigenous to Canada though? This is where I'm calling bullshit in this.
The 1st documented Cannabis strains came to NA in the early 1700’s. That’s not to say Cannabis wasn’t here before then tho.

its called BACKING and they'll be able to do as they please.8-)
edible market is wide open!!!

Back when I used to smoke, I went to Bala to get some cigs from the natives. The guy at the one shop was mentioning how certain cigs were "blends" and you didn't want to buy those. ..he said some of them aren't so good at math and with the blends it is not pure tobacco so when adding curing or preserving chemicals they might be off by a factor of x10 (think mg vs μg). So apply that to edibles and yeah, you can go to the reserve to buy some edibles made from native grown weed, but they are going to have to prove to the market that it isn't poison.

Well when you look at all the countries that do have indigenous cannabis, it's easy to see why it would need to be brought here....we don't have the climate...can you smell it?

We have pretty much the same climate as Afghanistan and they never had issues with their landrace strains finishing. Again, documented European invader accounts put cannabis here in the 1700’s. That doesn’t mean cannabis wasn’t already here when they got here. So what’s your point?

I wouldnt buy smokes from Mohawks either.. and no..they don't grow it. They bring it across the riv along with everything else ...in big black unmarked off shore boats to with a few decoy boats. Any trouble up on shore they go where no one can touch them!...been going on for ever and can be seen every day!

anyone can grow clean herb ..

its our own government who is poisoning us right now..or have you forget that already?

The plants I have seen on the sides of mountains with snow not so far away...would surprise the hell out of most

I've already stated my point...I'm calling bullshit on it being a "cultural thing" with FN's...see I thought it was tobacco....hmmmm....

Assuming you are correct and cannabis wasn’t here before the 1700’s...you don’t think cultures can adapt after a couple of centuries? Do you think natives just smoked peyote in those peace pipes?

What I read into what they're saying sounds reasonable. I take it as meaning they want control over what and how legalization happens within their "borders". Meaning if Wynntario decides to strictly allow retail through their own MJ shops but one reservation wants to open their own retail shops/dispensaries, they should be able to and not have to worry about being hassled. Seems reasonable for them to control their own system, including age restrictions if they want to.

The provinces are doing whatever they want in those areas to maximize taxes and profit, what makes a reservation different than a province?

A few differences...Provinces supply is their citizens with things like electricity, clean water, sewers, jobs, education, health care (including mental health), business opportunities, public transit...all of which are absent on most reserves. Since the Gov has never helped natives, I agree...they should be allowed to do their own thing.

What I meant by that question is that they are supposed to be self-governed and in that respect to me a reservation is a mini province within a province. They should therefore have the right to govern as they see fit, particularly when the feds have given the provinces that right in the case of MJ legalization.
