I found the Space monkey flopping all over the place on Thursday and although I think she needed another week, I decided to take her down(3 days short of 9 weeks). I really didn't do this plant justice and think she could be a lot better. She's covered in frost and is very sticky, the smell is quite strong and hard to place, not particularly appealing to me ATM, I'm hoping that will develop into something more pleasant as it dries/cures.IMG_0920.JPG IMG_0928.JPG IMG_0926.JPG IMG_0935.JPG IMG_0938.JPG IMG_0943.JPG IMG_0948.JPG

Cheap, homemade fish hydrolysate, very easy with the right ingredients and equipment, although very messy and certainly not for the squeamish, LOL

Recipe, taken from here http://theunconventionalfarmer.com/recipes/fish-fertilizer/

I used 2 mackrel bought for £4 from the local supermarket, each 'measured' as roughly 500ml in volume, so I followed their recipe to the 'T'

'1' Mackrel 500ml (to measure the fish volume, I poured 300ml of water in a 1 litre jug and added the cut up fish, the water level went up to 800ml, so I knew I had 500ml of fish)
1500ml water (non or de-chlorinated)
167g mollases/brownsugar
4 tablespoons of lacto/em1 (I'm not 100% confident in my homemade lacto, so also used some EM1 for piece of mind)

IMG_0954.JPG
It's really important to cut up the skin of the fish into small pieces, if you don't want to be replacing your blender, it's totally disgusting, but better than paying for a new blender. The skin in particular wraps around the blades, straining the motor till it burns out. Blend the fish in small bursts and monitor how warm the body of the blender is getting. If you smell any burning, that is the motor, stop immediately and allow everything to cool down.
IMG_0958.JPG
Put your fish, (some)water, sugar and lacto in the blender and blend till you've got a fine mush
IMG_0960.JPG IMG_0964.JPG IMG_0965.JPG IMG_0967.JPG
Pour into a large bottle with the rest of the water, mix up and allow to ferment in a warm, dark place for 4-6 weeks. It's important to keep it as anaerobic as possible, but it's also vital that you release the gas produced during fermentation somehow. I really wouldn't like to have to clean up an exploded bottle of this stuff, LOL When it's ready, the nasty fishy smell is gone and you're left with a faint sweet/vinegary smell

Mmm yummy thanks for sharing that! :D
I've been toying with making some of this myself, it's supposed to be an excellent foodstock for ACT!
Say, did you remove the bones or did they get chopped along with the rest?

MM byebye SpaceMonkey - what are you going to do with the soil, recycle or just topdress?
I've ended up just topdressing the 15L pot my PE was in - VC /coco/ pumice, plus a tablespoon of eggshell and kelp, let the borage carry on growing, and the BerryBomb Auto I've sprouted in there is looking quite happy for the time being.
But we have yet to see how that develops and whether it would've been better to take that pot apart and recycle instead

Oh and congrats on your worms!!
Cheers! :blsmoke:

Hahaha, it's a nasty process, but well worth the effort. :spew:

It's best if you can use the whole fish, bones, eyes, skull, guts, the lot............apparently, if the guts are intact, the bacteria within help the fermentation process, mine were gutted though. The final concoction does need straining, but most of the bones and scales will have been digested and there will be very little solid material left to remove.

The soil used for the space monkey will be re-cycled and probably used for something else. I've diy'd a 'SIP' today, which is already filled with a 50/50 mix of new and re-cycled soil and in the tent waiting for the SM to dry.............I'm gonna put the big 'Shit' plant I've got in it as soon as possible and flip it as soon as it's healthy enough.

Haha! I know there's no real connection and hence no real reason, but still. all proud of those Crazy Callis!
May they be the feistiest of the batch and do their namesake justice with exquisitely multifarious smelloscapes!!! :bigjoint:

Also especially curious to see how those SSDD f2'S do and whether they put out a lot of variance or not!
Too bad about the lounge room lizards, but you had those growing before didn't you?
It would make one think that the Blue Iguana doesn't mix well, at least a TOTAL breeding noob like me would start thinking shit like that, given it's in both lineages of those that didn't sprout :-P

Cheers and have a good week! :blsmoke:

Sadly they're all now dead .................. had police lurking around the street on a few occasions, so decided to seriously reduce my plant count to just 5.

I've got a confirmed Lounge room lizard female in one tent and I'm running the 'Shit' again in the other tent.

ohmaaan....
looks like I'm going to have to grow em myself then
But those two there are looking good - love the new container, makes me want to jump in and wallow in it myself haha
How did you end up doing the bottom?

Interesting to see that tier of yellow-bordered leaves on the shit (I'm yellow-traumatized at the mo haha), especially from the perspective of how she visibly got back into balance afterwards - what's your take on that? (ideas theories magic fixing concoctions?)
Cheers!

Get some of em' popped, the only thing we know about them is that they seem to germ pretty easily, LOL :-D

Hahaha...........the sip/air bed does look invitingly comfortable, shame it's not big enough to lie down on, lmao.:bigjoint:
I ended up putting wicks through every drilled hole in the bottom of the bed and it seems to be working well so far (all the hole without wicks in the 1st photo, got shorter wicks only going about 2 inches into the soil)...........IMG_1045.JPG

The more conventional SIP is performing very well, I've not seen growth this fast since I did DWC.

She was getting a bit bushy and showing slight mag def, so I thinned her out and gave her an epsom foliar.................IMG_1120.JPG IMG_1125.JPG
I waited for a couple of days before tying her down, to let her get over the extreme pruning she got

Update pics

Loungeroom Lizard starting to look more like her mom every day, let's hope she puts out the same big cola's. Those big ass fan leaves are no good for a pissy little tent though.................:???:
IMG_1302.JPG IMG_1303.JPG
Shit looking healthier than she ever did on the last run, filled out the tent nicely and growing fast, so I flipped her on Friday

..............shit mon, over 3 weeks without an update.........oooops!!!

The 'Lizard' turned out to be a crazy stretcher, easily tripling in size since the flip 3 weeks ago. I'm hoping she's stopped now, cos the light can't go any higher and she's almost touchin it(with no ill effect, so far). She seems to have her mums solid structure and vigour with slightly narrower leaves. Let's hope the terps come from the dad, I really might have something special then.
IMG_1576.JPG IMG_1552.JPG

The 'Shit' is now just 4 weeks into 12-12 and has put on an unbelievable amount of bud already. The worrying thing is that she's starting to look a little pale, think I'll give her a little FH on the next wateringIMG_1563.JPG IMG_1544.JPG IMG_1572.JPG

DB! good to see you back at it man! Happy New Year to you! Loving what you have going on. Definitely stealing your worm bin design to see how it works. i have all the materials laying around to do it. Also, those sips look AMAZING. I may have to give one of those a try as well. I'm very impressed with how they look! Well that's the usual case around your garden. You always have amazing looking stuff :) Cheers man.

Hey Don, good to see you back around here too Bro.

Those pics on IG look awesome man and have seriously made me re-consider my next run, the fact that my current seedlings look like total crap has nothing to do with it, lol.

Shame about the fat purp crosses hey? That leaf on Johndough's deepdreams is insane!!! I can't get the SSDD f2's out of my head ATM, so think I'm gonna go for one of those and a psycho lizard, no point increasing the chances of a herm when I can only grow out 2 plants.

Stay Gravy Brotha and hope to see more of you about soon

DB
Always a pleasure to catch up with you, my brethren

I missed this msg somehow, my bad, but good to see your new worm farm in action! How wide are the sides, bro, almost 30" of 2x6? I wonder how heavy those will be when full, either way, I love the sheer size!!

Also love how you're rocking a couple big girls these days in the wake of your ''hoeing''.. haha very smart to have mad tops but low count for the time being!!

As per the Psycho Liz, yeah!! It's the one I would run if I were you, too, apparently its doing really good in the pain relief department and also has a full sweeping relaxation effect on the ol body.. I hear its taste nicely pops too after a little curing action.. look forward to testing it for its possible CBD this year!!

As for the Fatties, you know, bud, only that one cat said he had herms and he never actually proved it I don't think, everyone else had a good time with them, BigDade from IG and BigBuddz from Rm3 (same cat) can really attest to his love for them, he did a really thorough journal and even made crosses of the the Dreamers and is sending them back to us, last week he said.. so I'll have my SK team pop some and see what comes about there!! If anything good comes about, I will send you some np!!

As for them tasty treats, the SSDD's F2's, good choice!! I enjoyed the bud a lot, mostly for its taste..actually crossed the SSDD there with some Shotta Berry Kush from our island homeboy Mr Shotta Island Genetics, and yeah, unfortunately I had to move across country right before they were done, but I was able to clip a mature branch and got a few viable seeds out of them, so looking forward to those, very much.

.....I noticed there was two packs of SSDD's, was there a No.2 Mom, and a No. 11 Mom, or were they both number "II" as in roman numeral 2 ahaha.. I have them seperate still just in case, been meaning to ask!!

But yeah brotha, keep on the good fight, its good to see all the progression as always!!
