ROOTS!

Just some reporting back, 2 more seeds popped this morning, so now waiting on one more from each group.
It is a little cool, so germination is slow, I tried to not influence the experiment by skipping the normal kelp soak.
I have to add a few more bulbs today for all these seedling. As I moved the tubes I had above my veg box into a planted aquarium. The three bulbs in there are covering as much as they can already.

Hey hey, its my birthday!
Time for some feedback. one seed from the ordinary bags set did not germinate, but I am happy with the potential I have seen so far.
The modified bags seem to have an advantage, but let us have a look.

But wait, what about those ROOTS?

Look, a PERFECT root ball.

This seedling is only 10 days old!

Needless to say, I already started making larger bags.

Bro, hello! I'll tell you honestly, you thought up a great way! I had never thought about root at such an early age !!! You pushed me to think! Make a mini construction for seedlings. Later I will draw a picture for you, as I see it! We will think together !!

The only advice, if you will, do not put polyethylene, it soars !!
This is bad! It's harder for the roots to breathe!

I in such cases use synthetic fabric

or black agro fiber.

The reason the bag works for me is it is full of holes and has thin foam layer on inside for air pruning the roots when they get to the sides. Works better than any pot
Will post photo of the bag without holes and foam, there it does choke roots, agreed.

Never leave plants in bags in the sun, roots cook in 15 minutes.

I'm telling you how to do it right! You steal plants! Roots so will not grow!

So the roots will not grow !! It's for sure I already had such questions on another resource, in another country ... it was already)))

Wrong you do!

Do it with your own way, you will not regret it!

lol, did google translate go crazy?

Yes, I saw your method of stepping up the pots, very clever. I just don't use anything smaller than about 10 to 12cm for germinating seeds in. I also hate flower pots, they are horrible anaerobic pits (until you make it full of holes also). The beginner bags I use are 10x12.5x22.5.
They are now going into 12.5x15x30cm. Luckily as you could see the foam just pulls off the root ball, like velcro and can be used again.

Have you ever stacked a bunch of plastic pots together so tightly, trying to get them pulled apart you rip the skin of your hand so bad it's got to the deep darker blood inside.. holy shit man.. the lip of the pot.. OUCH!! just now. (spritz of H202)

Consider this is a long time ago, and I didn't know what I was doing with the whole new airpot fad. I've had these ever since, my logic to these amateur bad attempt at airpots was that so much water and maybe soil would wash out and I just wanted those bottom roots to be more 'hairy' I thought. I don't even remember and don't think it made any difference whatsoever in yield or anything at the time in my shitty dry environment at the time. Anyway, please take a look ANC...
Those are hydro pots with a good bottom mesh designed to sit on a flood tray and filled with hydroton and drippers:

Thanks ANC.
I want to make it the best of the best I can. Do it right the first time.. well second time after so long.

p.s. I can use these pots they're about 1gal for the beginning days, but I can make some new stuff also if these are too far gone in the wrong direction of design.

...and maybe drill more holes up the entire pot, and not so small this time, and line the inside with mesh of some kind, and make 'hats' like from the top of a cardboard file box type thing? I read about what Sedan said poly mesh warms too much, got that part. ANy suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
(just to make sure.. you do see the pic in previous post right? ..it's not red x is it?)

The holes need to cover the whole height of the plant to let in air and prune roots reaching the edge. It also stops a capillary skin of water sitting between the substrate and the bag or pot. Outdoors this pot needs to be inside another bigger pot or a box to keep the sun off the base.

Don't use a mesh, only tiny bits of soil will leach out. Watering is best done slow and deep.

Thanks man. Just a few questions please what do you think...

My pots I already made in the picture...
The small holes I already made, would it be better to make same size holes all the way up now? Or...
better to make little bit bigger holes to the top now?
What would you do if I gave you those pots I made right now?
Thanks.

#2, When I make new pots, Is it better small holes all the way, or bigger?
I don't care about the work, which do you think is best? What size drill bit? :D
I want your input here very much, Thank you.

I'd stick to that size, it is about the size hole of a paper punch.
I don't like pots for much more than holding slightly smaller bags.

You got it, yeah, almost exact same size paper punch, I'll drink some power juice and get the drill out..lol
(just not so many, not so close this time, I think I did way too many holes too close.)

Putting one pot into another, for light protection, is this going to be a problem inside under 1K HPS ?
And if I do vertical like Sedan style, do I need protection from light, or quickly canopy will make protection? 2 qestions please and Thank you very much for your time!

I dont get why you guys are wasting your days drilling pots, hole punching bags, cutting foam liners etc. A fabric pot is effectively what youre trying to turn all these pots into, why bother when you can just buy a fabric pot?

They cost next to nothing, 2 gallon hydrofarm fabric pots for like $1.79 each. And can grow 3' plants with amazing root balls, the density of the root mass always awes me, makes me wonder how it didnt push all my medium out actually. Under $5 for upto 5 gallons if you desire. They are also re-useable, and for many many grows if you buy the decent quality brands (hydrofarm/smart pot)

They even have seedling/starter sized fabric pouches, but the for 15 cents those cost I would simply cut them down the side to transplant and not worry about re-use, but I currently start in solos

Gives you more time to stop and smell the roses, time is money
