Here's an unsettling take on what a Democratic obsession with Impeachment might reap;

“The Impeachment Trap: Be Careful What You Wish For” [In These Times]. Indeed:

I am most concerned about the scenario where one or more leading Republicans come on board and entice Democrats to lead a successful impeachment. [T]he robot-like Pence—despite his extreme right-wing views—would be packaged as a comforting return to normalcy. The relief at no longer having an egotistical lunatic at the helm could provide Pence with a long and generous public opinion honeymoon. Republicans could claim that Trump was “never one of theirs,” and approach the 2020 campaign with the benefit of incumbency and without Trump’s liabilities.

Democratic ownership of impeachment would also cement the loyalty of working-class Trump voters to the Republican Party. Republican incumbents in swing districts could spin impeachment as a partisan witch hunt. Trump would become a martyr, and his voters would blame Democrats. This is a terrible outcome for progressives who want to move the Democratic Party back to its economic justice roots.

Most important to progressives, Democratic ownership of impeachment would sacrifice the historic opportunity to integrate the massive anti-Trump resistance into a revitalized progressive movement and Democratic Party. A short-term focus on impeachment would divert the focus of many activists away from less glamorous, but more important, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and policy advocacy, and decrease the likelihood of mass grassroots mobilizations on critical issues such as health care, immigration, Planned Parenthood, electoral reform, climate change, and so many others.

There's a huge groundswell of support coalescing around a Progressive Movement to the left of the current neoliberal Democratic Party.

Think of all this as a left of center version of the Tea Party. Establishment neoliberals hate this idea, but I think it's snowballing beyond their ability to quash or shape it and therefore control it.

Doubt it really the people love him i guese the mob wont allow it like the movie the gladiater "Rome is the mob"
Please read the above linked article, it's brilliant;

If Impeachment is on the cards, make the Republicans take the lead and therefore responsibility for it. This would splinter the Republican Party's base of support, tie them to the Chump's mouth and leave them far more vulnerable in 2018 and 2020.

The Chump is the best thing that's happened to the Progressive Movement in my lifetime. Jumping at an early current at impeaching him would be a disaster for the liberal cause. Hence, 'trap'.

I'd take him over Trump. I couldn't put odds on whether or not Trump will be replaced but that fucker is at the center of national security and doesn't even know what's happening. If Trump broke laws and one of the investigations gets the goods on him then off with his head and move on to the next criminal in chief.

Not exactly enthusiastic and would be ready to oppose anything Paul Ryan does but he's just another right wing ideologue, a leader of a minority faction in this country who is behind the health care bill that will sink the GOP in the next election. It's in their best interest to return power to Democrats. Republicans will be more comfortable when they are no longer in charge. They aren't suited to governing. Most of the states they control are economic disasters too.

Repubs have to take the lead because impeachment starts with the House. I don't think they'll need too much coaxing once Mueller uncovers all. So many are involved minimally for obstruction. Remember Nunez?This will be historic.

I get his point. But, a sitting president who is known to have colluded with Russia before, during and after the presidential campaign to erode democracy in the US can't be left in office. He might survive this crisis and so it's all "what if" speculation at this point anyway.

For now, I'm content to watch the Criminal Apprentice show.

Do you really think this class of Republicans will do the right thing? The truth evades these guys.

I hope that Mueller takes his time on this and presents the results of his investigation to the Democratically controlled House.

I question that Bernie still backs "your Revolution". Didn't he just do a tour with Perez, both advocating policies you like and unity in the Democratic party? Still you guys talk about monkey wrenching the next election for the Republicans. WTF?

The longer they take to do the right thing, the worse the consequences for them.

You should watch some YouTube clips from that tour. He did a great job of highlighting the differences between his approach and the neoliberalism Perez was elected to represent.
