Cat hair?
of course!
it's basicly the same shit as doghair, hoof/horn meal and feather meal
saaame stuff
just dont use if you treat them for any fleas or whatnot
and remember that hair takes a long time to be available, best mixed with medium and fast release sources
example, fish meal is fast, neem meal is med, doghair is slow
human hair works too if you have a lady in your life that "sheds" as much as mine does

just a lil update from the last week...

Container experiment is still rockin away. The one doing the worst IMO is the 7 gal plastic. I think i had it too moist for a bit there so I dialed back the blumat and it should be running better now. The 5 gal plastic is really impressing me... I'm really excited to see the results at the end of this trial. Currently ~21 days into it. I was going to give them a little top dressing but they look so damn good.... i'm just gonna let it go. They got extra amendments at transplant 7 weeks ago. then they got compost topdressing with amendments mixed in 3 weeks ago.... so I think they're gonna make it to the end with no issues.

ConCheese2.jpg ConCheese3.jpg ConCheese1.jpg

Brainwreck ~7 weeks in. had some def. issues in the first 4 weeks but seemed to have stopped them since I gave them a good topdressing. again... these DTE amendments... just processed too finely IMO. needs multiple applications to get from start to finish with no issues.

Brainwreck.jpg Brainwreck2.jpg

and lastly.... and most exciting to me... I got my first two 20 gal no tills filled up!! sowed the 12 variety seed mix from BAS for living mulch, and then put the cannabis mulch over top of that, watered it in and then threw a good handful of worms/castings on top! so excited to get these going! Gonna get 2 more together and experiment with 4 of them before I go full scale of ~16-20 of them. They're nice and mobile sitting on castors, air getting all the way around the containers, should be awesome. I also pumped up the aeration material to probably ~45%

the mix includes:

fishbone meal, kelp meal, insect frass, neem meal, dolomite/oyster shell mix, basalt rock dust, crab shell meal, gypsum, greensand, and maybe something else but i think that's it.

hmmmm... that's a 3x3ft tent, is it?
I'm going to go fabric too, as I have a constant 20% air humidity I want to improve... hadn't thought of sizes yet lol

Oh and which is which in the container test? :D

nope its either 4x4 or 5x5 i cant remember

oh the container test is the shots of the group of four plants in the first two pics from that last post. front left plant is the 7 gal fab. front right is 5 gal plastic. back left is 7 gal plastic, and back right is the 10 gal fab.

I seem to be finding something similar, so I got some ffof for a comparison, but I over amended my mix (using DTE kelp, alfalfa, fishbone, langenbright, aza? minerals, sulfur, and though it sat for almost 3 months it still stunted the plants in my mix while the ffof allowed for very rapid but floppy gangley growth, easily 2x the size at this point. Really kind of a gut check to see the ff "outperforming", it uses more water, though they are getting the same supplementation. This is where I think you might have some insight to my situation because again in the past I found a need to top dress multiple times I am attempting fermentation of the DTE amendments (sans minerals and langenbright) and other plant material (first one yet to try is yarrow). My reasoning for fermenting is to make a balanced easy to handle supplement and avoid so much top dressing which I find to be inaccurate, also bc the hot mix dosen't need a whole lot ....

you need to look at your NPK in total of all ingredients. and one must remember that these numbers are derived by the weight of the amendment per volume. the weight of 1/2 cup greensand (~0-0-7 NPK) is much greater than the weight of 1/2 cup of kelp meal (~0-0-1). so when greensand is 7% potassium by weight, that's a shit ton more potassium than that kelp meal is contributing to the mix @ 1% potassium by weight. so it's not just 6%... it's 6% of the weight total. So, "hypothetically" even if potassium was (0-0-1) NPK, it would still contain more potassium than the same volume of Kelp meal because it weighs a lot more. So these are things you need to keep in mind when putting a mix together. understand your ingredients and have a reason for adding each one in and at what rates.

what was your soil recipe??

did your mix just sit there for 3 months or were you turning it as well?

oh and it's langbeinite not "langenbright" hehe.

im not looking to ferment anything because I have enough hobbies lol. I don't need anymore. i think the most i would ever do is kelp, and aloe.

which brings me to my next line of research because it doesn't make sense to me yet.....

i know right... honestly i'm really impressed with the 5 gal plastic right now.... we'll see how it looks in a few weeks... but it went in the smallest and i was like... psh this thing aint gonna do shit... and now it's honestly the best looking plant in the bunch... GO FIGURE lol

I get what you are saying about % wt. perhaps i am reading too much into it when you say dte amendments are processed too finely, do you mean they are milled to finely or processed ina way that would make them more readially available? Thus making it a question of availble form as well as amount.

Langenbright rolls off the toung so much more easilly.

I mixed weekly, i think you have already referenced one of my "confidential" compost ingredients dog hair, and unconventional manure, recipe is a strech except this time I used 1.5 times the ammounts listed for starting containers, usually mix at or below recomended amount. I use a 25 gallon tub and go by feel for used soil, coco (saturated with a micro mineral) a gallon or 2 of ewc, compost. Its been a good mix for me just not had the capability to do water only, not that its a huge issue. Im wondering if i can ferment my free yard waste instead of buying kelp and other stuff, book called art of fermenting i need to read.

I thought aloe was very perrishable with regard to its efficacy in gardening so i havent tried fermenting it as it takes about 2 weeks for the kelp and alfalfa.

Please remember the ss in my handle works for both super slow and super stupid, I prefer stupid scientist. Exactly it's down to earth are ground too fine?
they seem to be processed in a way that makes them very easy to break down... like the crab meal is wayyyyy to fine for my liking (and looked kinda like they fucked up that batch)... the kelp is very powdered... the neem seems less dense than the ahimsa neem meal... the fishbone meal is also different than the stuff i got from buildasoil. I just filled those no tills with amendments from buildasoil and neptunes harvest. so i'm hoping to see some differences in the flowering stage.

Either the store i go to changed what they carry or dte made a product line change but there was a general purpose one whose name escapes me now that was "replaced by " one called bio live a while back.

Ill be interisted in what you see with the different brands.

well these last 4 plants (unfortunately the 4 i'm doing the container experiments with) in this soil mix still are looking/acting a little deficient. Starting to get purple underside of the leaves so I'm assuming a P def, and flower growth over the last week has not been what I expected. I also forgot to switch my bulb for the better one and now it's week 5 and I'm really kicking myself for not remembering to do it 2 weeks ago when I wanted to.

Gave them all a shot of Neptune's Fish Hydrolysate @ 1tbsp/gal and everything i gave it to is responding awesomely with newly praying leaves. I think i'm gonna give them a shot of this once every weekend when I come home from school the rest of the time in flower, and the new mix i have in place will be a water only regimen to see how the new amendments are working compared to the DTE. if I still see any deficiencies I think i'm going to seek out some slower breakdown amendments and see if I can get a better time release of nutrients, or start running at 3/4 cup per cuft

I'll nab some pics when the lights go out in a bit.

I have relatives in MA that have a whole barn for boiling syrup. I put that S**t on everything!
that's what i'd like to do when I get my own piece of major acreage. and yeah... it's friggin' amazing. If you ever remember, pick up some seltzer water from the store, and use a couple tbsp of syrup per glass and make your own maple soda... it's like instant homemade cream soda... it's amazing. vanilla ice cream for a float, if you will.... so good! last three years have been total shit for collecting sap with these wacky winters we've been having. have had to really ration the syrup between seasons haha.
