Growing in Chico, CA in an apartment?

I'm wondering if my potential grow setup would be legal in Chico, CA. I'm looking at a 3x3 tent with 6 plants total. I would be putting the tent in my apartment living room. I went as far as to read the actual law as its written and the only part that bugs me is the "The cultivation area must be located inside a detached structure that is no larger than one hundred twenty (120) square feet in size". The "detached structure" is unclear to me. Would my 3x3 tent be a "detached structure" from my apartment? If not, would the closet that is out on the patio could as a detached structure?

If all else fails, obviously the don't ask don't tell rule applies to my situation.

Fuck butte county laws. Lol. What they don't see won't hurt them;-)
I would be more worried about the landlord/apartment rules. Charcoal filter up.
My brother grew in an apartment down there for a minute, nothing happened to him.

For 4-6 plants how many carbon filters do you think I would need?

Are you doing this in a tent? How much light?
3x3 or 48x32 tent. 600W HPS/MH. I had planned to hook up 1 carbon filter and place it in the middle of the plants and then run ducting thru the light hood with a fan on the other side of the light hood leading out of the tent. I think it'll help a little with the temperature and help a lot with the smell.

Get a 6" fan and a 6x24" phresh filter;-)
Hang the filter up as high as you can.

The phresh filter is 550 CFM, I can't seem to find a fan in that CFM range. Does the CFM differential really have any effect? Also the budget has me spending $80 for a 4" fan/filter 190CFM combo set thing. Would I be okay with that, I believe the filter is 4 x 12. I can spend the extra $20 and get a fan/filter 442CFM set with a 6 x 16 filter if you think that would make a noticeable difference.

As long as the filter is rated for more cfm than the fan puts out you're good. It's the opposite that's not ok.
That 4" fan/filter combo will most likely totally work right now being winter. You know how hot it gets around here, I would go 6".
I've never bought or used that 6x16, but as long as it's bigger than fan, go for it. Ordering online, or you gonna go buy these things from garden connection or another store nearby?

I was thinking about ordering on Amazon. Any places I should check out?

Here in Colorado it's been my experience that in the long run (and even short run if you negotiate) you can get quite a bit better deals at local stores as opposed to online (@ the bigger stores anyways) especially once you build up a relationship with management. Just see if they can beat prices online. Best of luck

The reason I asked is sure, you can usually get shit cheaper online, but the last thing you want is the manager of your apartments seeing a bunch of hydro equipment dropped in front of your door. Sucks to have to hide it these days, but i'd make sure its descrete shipping being in an apartment, but i would imagine you were prob already thinking the same.

Well if say your on bottom floor of apartment you should be fine. When you flower i would during the day since its little more exp on electricity. At night neighbors might be like wtf on sound from fan. But your 6 plant grow youll be fine. I have a 29k grow going so yea.Amazon is your best bet.

^^^^ you can sometimes get good deals on amazon, I use to buy on there all the time, but talked to one of the local stores I occasionally did business with and they beat prices by far. Blockbuster hoods for 118.29 out the door where on Amazon cheapest I could find was 170 something. Same with nutes, I get 5 gallon bottles of nutes anywhere from 30-80 dollars cheaper than on amazon... that's also buying in bulk thoufh, but big local stores def can do significantly cheaper If they want to. Just my 2 cents.. always nice to get stuff shipped to you though and not have to haul it everywhere.

What if I were to change to CFL lights? Wouldn't that drop the temperature enough for me to get rid of a few fans and maybe even cut the cost of my lighting by removing the hood. This would allow me to add a bigger filter with the money I save. Would it be worth it to save some extra money by changing to CFLs?

Imo, no. You'll get much better results of hps/mh. You can build insulated boxes around the fans though - if you do that well then it will take out majority of the noise/vibration. Best of luck!

Growing up the road from you at 5,000 ft. level... Sheriff dept. got tip from my ex-wife the day after divorce finalized a year n a half ago.. He asked if I had the state pemit... No on that bullshit! He asked if I had kids. No - raised long ago... He asked if I was making concentrates. I only make buble hash with ice so that was cool... He asked how many plants I had. Um... That might be a problem - I had 44 in flower and 16 in veg. He said I could have 99 plants! He was too cool... Law at that time allowed 6 veg, flower per recommendation.

Basically, I think some of police are beginning to work with people on cannabis growing. Do some research on getting a quiet exhaust fan system so it doesn't announce to everyone what your doing even though everyone in the complex will know sooner or later...

As far as the detachable grow space goes... I'm growing under my house - Nothing fucking detached here... The growing restrictions in CA will defiantly be changing in order to make it possible to grow a decent amount of medication for the entire family if needed.

I've grown with CFL, HPS/MH, and a little LED. Each system is unique in terms of heat, light, exhaust, etc. requirements. Each small change can require big changes to compensate new change. Good luck and Good GROWING!

Glad to hear the cops up there are cool. Why do you say that the complex will know sooner or later? What usually gives people away with only 6 plants, the smell or the noise from fans and whatnot?

Good question. There are quite a few things that give people away. I noticed I developed distinct patterns involved in growing under my house until I constructed a way into the grow space through a closet from upstairs.

In an apartment getting rid of waste needs some care. I think back on all the freaking waste that goes out... I'm guessing a quiet fan on all the time or on a lot at odd times would be less of a problem than smell. My neighbor always knows when it's flower time because I don't use a filter system...

By waste do you mean like plant material waste like trim and soil or just general trash from everything thats happening? I am definitely going to use a medium-large carbon filter system for sure, its already in the budget as a set that comes with an inline fan as well.

This is more of a concept question that I can't seem to figure out by googling it. Lets say I got an 8 inch 400 CFM fan and hooked it up to 6 inch ducting because my light housing has 6 inch holes and the filter I want is 6 inches 442 CFM (I don't want the 6 inch fan because its only 240 CFM and the 8 inch is $5 more for almost double the CFM). I aced physics in high school and aced it again last semester now that I'm in college, so by my knowledge the equivalent CFM of the 8 inch fan would jump a bit because I'm only using the 6 inch duct piping and filter. Would this be correct, would there be an equivalent CFM if the 8 inch fan were a 8 inch fan? If there would be an equivalent CFM, can you tell me how much higher it would be than my 442 CFM filter or whether or not the difference would effect the efficiency of my filter?
