What to buy $$

If I post pics, will you promise to eat your hat?

To be exact though it's probably 1.5 foot. The bulb is deep in the reflector... So more like 1.5 ft

Also I have a fan blowing on the tops of the plant aswell.
Your obviously blowing smoke and mirrors or your shit is f**** up.

I have no reason to blatantly lie to you guys.. Why would I??

I have already said that cob beats hps watt for watt.

I'm simply saying all you guys who are saying it is super hot I don't seem to be having the same experience with 4x DE hps.

I'll post pics later then see for yourself...

Anyways.. I have a question myself...

What could I upgrade too?? Heat is not an issue for me, neither is power. They are non factors.

DE HPS/ COB / CMH - I am after max yield.

Yes. You should look into light spectrums and plant growth and can now by many different t5's. Some are uv specific. Some include some uv. And they have red and blue spectrum bulbs too. You can mix and match.

I just use stock 6500k bulbs in a 2 foot 8 bulb lamp in a 3x3 veg tent myself. But I have seen amazing flowers under t5's lately.

You can lead a horse to water.........but you can't make him drink.

Line the walls with strip leds? The 3014's look to be the new standard. Smaller and brighter than the old 5050 leds. More efficient too I believe.

So quick question........has anyone here ran bare bulb 600's? hps? How far away from my canopies does a babe bulb need to be, not having it in a cooltube will be a first for me. I am willing to try though, if i can see a noticeable diff without the "glass penalty" then id try it sure nough!

Bare is best for max yield.
How many bulbs?
Room size?
Distance from plants is easy to calculate. Get a temp meter and move the bulb higher until you get ideal temp reading.
Different height for different room.

CXB3590 TOP BIN will give you max yield.
900PPFD is your aim.
Can also run Vero 29 or Citi CLU.
There are a few threads on the LED section.
1.5 + GPW if you are a good grower which i assume you are running DE.
Regardless of the heat I would go COB. Infact I did just go COB from single diode.
Many people are hitting 1.8 GPW.

Hey man

I am definitely considering COB, you seem to know about COB technology so I have a few questions for you :

For me gram per watt is a very rough number. Veg time makes a massive difference and style of grow. I usually grow trees. DE works great for me as the penetrative is great. Buds lower on the canopy are at around 30k lux.

My question is will I be able to grow trees or will SOG be better with COB?

Or does growing style not matter??

I have used cob, led 3w and 5w, cmh, mh, hps, DE MH and DE HPS, cfl tubes and bulbs, uv bulbs and induction lighting. Although I have always used my hps as my main light and the others as side lighting....

Can you give me links to cob diy kits?

I'm going to try a pure cob run.

I would honestly be super surprised. Not being a dick, its just extremely unlikely.
Please upload a pic with the DE and temp.
What model are you rrunning? Gavita, Nanolux? Your own build?
If your own build what bulb and ballast.

Just very odd that your 1.5 foot away no air removal or ac with descent temps.
When I ran HPS I had my 1k at 1 foot no air and my teemps with 35-40C... not sure how a DE would be better. Makes no sense.
I know a few people with Gavitas and they are Hotter than HPS. Hence the distance from Canopy.
The distance from canopy that is recommended is due to the lighting footprint. When the light is lower, you greatly impact the de footprint making it useless for what it's supposed to be doing

What is the recommended distance??
It depends how many lights you're running for the cross lighting. De is all about cross lighting and the lighting between 2 lights is just as bright or brighter than directly under the light. I keep mine at 3.5' with only side cross lighting, if I had front and back cross lighting with more lights, shoot at least 4 or 5'. You can see their pretty high up there with out hosting out a tape measure

Im well aware its due to footprint. What I am saying is 1.4 foot from plants will for sure fry therm.
Since you own them, please weigh in as it just sounds like way too much heat in my OP.

Well, it should be common sense that you can't run them a foot above the plants. I get a little bit of heat stress at 3' and I wouldn't want to try to run them any lower. I think @Aeroknow has run them a little bit below 3' in one of his rooms (just because the cieling height, I don't think he would in that room if the cieling was higher).. But, it's not 1 or even 2' above the plants. It's closer to 3.

Aero, whats your findings, I know you've run them every which way haha

I've had buds finish just fine even though they finished almost 2' from bulb lol. @1150 watts.
There has got to be decent fan action in between the fixture and canopy, but not blowing on bulb though.
3' is the max number to shoot for, especially with these comercial fixtures. Because heat and footprint.

Shit, so 3' is the highest above canopy the light should be?!? I gotta lower mine like a good foot or 2 haha, some plants are 4-4.5' away
