..in an open, transparent and accountable manner, which is certainly not the case now.
You are incorrect. The current way is totally accountable. The board votes on the pay structure and tenure of the CEO. The stock holders either invest or withdraw their funds depending upon company performance. If the CEO causes the company to lose money it is likely he gets replaced.

The people who's money it actually is are the investors and they are the ones that have to give up a cut of their profit to pay the CEO.

Anyone working for the company VOLUNTARILY joined employment and has no right to claim as much as a penny above the agreed upon pay structure.

Do you think it's OK for a CEO making millions annually to pay his workers a wage which requires them to rely on government assistance to pay their bills?

I think a CEO can make whatever the board of directors and the stock holders agree to. To get the best CEO's that make the company and the stockholders wealthy and successful, cost much more than the ones who drive it into the ground, and they know it.

Michael Bay makes more than 60M a year for making terrible movies. Jim Carey makes that much appearing in terrible movies. Let's not even mention how much F1 drivers make for causing global warming.

It's called the LAW of supply and demand and not the theory of for a reason.

Business is business.

If the bean counters say they can make more money doing something, they usually do it. From ignoring regulations and paying a fine to paying for top talent, the bottom line is the first concern.

And so the envy, greed, jealousy and hypocrisy of the left is revealed again.

I repeat as I've repeated before, you have NO right to discuss the pay of others.

You're not a shareholder, you're not on the Board.

I don't tell people I think all bedrooms should be white so I'm gonna fucking moan at everyone until everyone suits me and paints their bedroom white, its none of my business what colour you paint your house, just as its none of your business what a Corporation pays its CEO.

Padawan, you getting jealous of the McDonalds CEO because you as a fry cook think you "deserve" close to what he gets?
i bet you're pretty envious and jealous of anyone over 5'6''.

There is no doubt in my mind that many CEOs get paid ridiculous amounts of money. What the solution is? Who knows.
The CEO from Home Depot comes to mind. I don't remember the exact numbers but during his time Home Depot almost fell off the map and the guy ended up leaving with a 300+mil dollar bonus.

Golden Parachutes are very common contractual agreements that happen before the CEO is even hired.

Look at Amazon, been a great company for many years now, makes almost no profit. Jeff lives like a king though and has some great ideas, just not profitable ones.

How much is a guy worth who starts out at a company worth $1 billion and leaves that company worth $50 billion? Think he's worth less than 2% of that gain?

Is that how who is "right" or not is determined? By who has the best like to post ratio? So if you said 2+2 was 5 and Harrekin said it was 4, you would be correct and not him? is that how you think it works?

Well lets set you straight on something first. RIU has gone through changes in the past, BEFORE you were ever a member here there was a rep system before there was a like system, so just add 10,000 to that number of his. when the system converted over to the "Like" system, most of us had to start over, but since we don't post in most other areas anymore we don't garner huge amounts of "likes" anymore. Trophy points are more indicative of style and substance anyway, not popular opinion. You post mostly in grow areas where lots of noobies hang out asking what sex their plant is, super easy to get a like there. You haven't even been here a year yet, still wet behind the ears. I doubt you would survive very long in this environment anyway ( politics) most people leave with their tail tucked, will that be you?

Just asking, not like I am attacking you or anything, but I found it a bit odd that a new person would tell an elder that he was better than him.

What do you do for a living?

All your threads are just bitching and moaning about what others have and and what you don't.

If minimum wage sucks pick yourself up some bootstraps or rob a bank.
We've reached a point in time where what other people have matters to the population at large. Billionaires are buying elections and influencing politicians. Their actions weaken not only the American economy, but the global economy.

The fact is, corporations that net billions in profits and pay their CEO's 350 x's their average workers salary while relying on government programs to pay for the difference in their cost of living is unacceptable. The minimum wage remaining stagnant over 4 decades while average CEO pay has increased by hundreds of percent is unacceptable.

Why do people like you fight for the wealthiest people actively fucking you in the ass economically?

Now, can you address any of those facts or will your next reply amount to more bullshit?

This shows the level of ignorance most have towards Fortune 500 pay and how it got so far out if whack. Corruption, pure and simple; all these CEOs sit on one another's compensation boards and vote each other raises- then pony at the other companies and say they're just keeping up with industry trends?! How us that NOT a rip off of the highest order?

They're stealing from their employees AND the shareholders and somehow even institutional investors with the biggest blocs of shares seem to be okay with letting it continue... probably because THEIR compensation boards look the same way!

I think a CEO should make the same pay as the most experienced workers in the company, whether that experience comes from the boardroom our the factory floor, both have an equal impact on profitability. If a CEO wants more, then by ask means, buy stock- NOT just options that have been repriced to put then in the money. Once they have their own skin in the game, they'll behave a lot more appropriately.
"both have an equal impact on profitability" Uhhh.........no.
