Starting MMJ Grow Business, am I in over my Head?

My partner (wife) and I have plans on starting a (legal) medical marijuana grow business eh. Building is 1500sq ft. Going to split building in half and have 2 rooms 375 sq ft. Other half will be office, drying room, showers etc. I have never grown marijuana before and neither has my partner. We plan on starting with about 90 plants and working our way up to fill both 375 sq ft rooms, expand, who knows? Been exhaustively reading forums, watching videos and reading books about growing with hopes of starting up this September. Very nervous about this because our total investment will be about $200K (building is $100K and I priced out equipment and all incidentals to about $100K). Total projected revenue from this is over $200K a year with my assumption being we will be able to harvest at least 150 grams (doable?) per plant every 2-3 months?? My partner and I both have scientific backgrounds so we know how to follow instructions, do math and analyze stuff. Is this doable or am I setting myself up for a huge debt?

You may want to hire some guys that have grown, at least some that will advise or partner with you. I can't imagine doing it. Best of luck though.

I've given this a lot of serious thought, too. By office do you mean storefront? Are you just whole-selling this bud to dispensaries? 90 plants is a lot. What medium will you use?

I think you should pick a few strains and start much smaller. Find a few strains you like and learn to grow. I think your long term projections are doable, but I also know from 17 years experience that if you plant 90 plants on your first run you will have a very hard time. What state? Maybe I can help you in the right direction or at least add to your information.

Going to use soil. It is in Canada so no storefront, marijuana can only be sold and shipped through postal service.
90 plants seems like a lot to me too but then I watch guys growing that many in a 5x5 space so idk?
Trouble with sourcing someone with any knowledge is that I wouldn't know if they were as stupid as I was or not

I agree you are gonna need help....I'd would advise hiring a consultant, one with a degree and 5 years experience, gained not in a prison, or in cfl type grows, better to bring in a Dutchman (shudder) ..see your venture as a hardcore business, don't forget prices are falling fast or will do soon, you will need to venture that in with your prices ...good luck

Get a master grower or at least a consultant. They aren't readily available as you'd think from my understanding.

Imagine investing all that money and your first crop be shit because of insects, lighting, mold...etc.

Me I wouldn't get a master grower I'd read and learn by doing every waking hour...

There's another thread like this lurking somewhere with Snaps... might be a good read.

I think I read it about the 15000 sq ft op. Sounds way too crazy!
What would be a good start 10-20? There is 2 of us.

Based off my experience the least time consuming and forgiving is when I switched to tga green avengers organic soil with airpots from DWC buckets. I PH water to 7. Water every 4 days. Only will be adding carbs mid flower. That's its (I'm main-lining so more involved).

DWC I was always worrying about PH, PPM, Roots, Maintenance of buckets, air pump, power going out... etc. Can't beat the speed of growth but gets tiring when I have my wife bitching at me to help with the kids.

I currently have 7 sprouted, 6 vegging and 2 flowering. Oh yeah and like 12 clones I don't know what to do with.

I'm one man. If you have any knowledge you could prob get away with more than 10-20.

Honestly? Yes, you're in over your heads, with your current timeline and expectations, given your lack of hands-on cannabis cultivation experience.

Thanks for the advice everybody! YouTube sure does make it look easy. Will have to just keep researching because I can't get any grow experience without getting licensed first! Shitty situation because if I start growing illegal and get busted then I will never be able to grow legally. Basically at this point in time, you either have to go all in or go home.

You can open a grow shop with that name.. o wait, someone already did. As long as your knitting business doesn't do grow consulting we're ok.

Saskabush,

You and your wife should grow two grows. One strain each grow. One grow indica-dom and the other sativa-dom. You need to get through two harvests and produce a product that's worth smoking. Then you'll know if you want to invest in this as a business.

Good luck!

Idk, I always felt all consultants do is tell you what you already know. That reassuring voice telling you it's the right thing to do, when really neither of you know whether things will go south or not.
If you already knew something you wouldn't seek consultation. ;)
