First off I asked her to quit smoking, stop drinking and take care of what's growing inside her. Then made a doctors appointment for her ( pre-natal ) and me ( snip snip ).

i'm going to be a father but i'm way passed freaked the hell out about raising a kid from my disposition and financial status.
i dont have kids, but i know that no one is usually financially ready for a child.
so grab a second job you got about 8 months to save up some cash.
look for sales on cribs, bottles, ect, plan a baby shower, or a diaper party, so your friends and family can help out a bit more.
and congrats! ^_^

what did you do when you found out you were going to have a child or children?
I was 23yrs old still living with my parents scared to tell my dad so I went to a pay phone and rang him and told him, and asked if I could still come home, I knew my now husband was far from ready to be a dad we had no savings no where to live and didn't even know if we would make it as a couple. So I wouldn't worry to much about it, things have a way of working out, I had my daughter rented a place got married when she was three and I was pregnant again, we both worked eventually bought a house had two sons and lived happily ever after, until they grew up and everything went tits up lol You will be fine!

Women are sooo dif. from men in our reactions and then how we deal with expecting a child. It's totally normal for her to be all gung ho while you're inwardly freaking out…. Women usually get really sensitive about the fact that we are super excited and that our men are ambivalent. That's because the baby grows inside the woman, and she has 9 months to get to know him/her. For guys, it's not until it's born, or even later when the baby responds (around 2 months) So don't sweat how you feel right now.

LIke Suni said, you can find lots of second hand stuff all over the place. That's what we did. You only use it for such a short time anyway. Just try and keep open communication. TELL her your freaked and why. Hopefully you've got a good woman and she'll support you and you can lift each other up. Give it time to sink in.

@ Granny Weed: LOL ain't THAT the truth!!

ETA: Case in point: See how all the guys post a few words and the women go into way more detail already on this thread :-)

I was 24 when I found out... I was a piece of shit person but I knew I wasn't ready, knew I didn't make enough money, knew I was still young and foolish... how the fuck was I going to raise a kid??

I'm 40 now and have custody of my daughter... other than that not much changed.
It's over whelming at times, but there are so many things that make every moment worth it... even during the not so good times

I remember being scared of breaking my baby... but I watched how the nurse just handled her, tossing turning bending... fuck I can do that...
I was an expert in no time... gave her bathes like I'd been doing it for years... had her almost completely potty trained by a yr and a half...

Anyway if a piece of shit like me can do good...
best of luck
