Make your own promix

I thought of the possibility that a me as a grower may have a problem finding promix but I am able to purchase the ingrediants to make promix. I have no idea if it would be cheaper per cubic feet but I saw all ingrediants at my local walmart and other stores so its available to most people in rural areas.

first mix I found
7 cubic feet of peatmoss
3.5 cubic feet vermiculite
3.5 cubic feet perlite
8 pounds of ground limestone (ph balance)

second mix
1 part perlite
1 part vermiculite
1 part worm castings (this probably can be removed because it is a fertilizer)
1 part peat moss

I believe promix bx has limestone but does not have worm castings. Worm castings are commenly added for fertilizer and contain micro-nutrients.
limestone is a ph buffer and contains some calcium. normal promix bx bought at a store usaully is 80% peat moss and you have to mix more vermiculite and perlite so it retains more water. The first mix and second mix you do not have to mix more perlite and vermiculite into the soil less mix because it already balanced. Promix you buy at the store gives you the ability to mix the amount of vermiculate and perlite the grower wishes. These two mixes seem to be indoor mixes and possibily need to be changed for a outdoor mix. For a outdoor mix the amount of vermiculite and perlite may be different. here is also a organic mix.

thanks. I've been a soil grower for a while, and I tried hydro before sea of green was even a legitimized concept. Soil less really seems like the best of both worlds~minus the hype. it's taken me a long time to realize it but I'm finally there:idea::clap::idea:

gradually my garden has gotten healthier as I put more and more amendments. Strange I rarely hear of it.
