This has to be a joke... 12 hours then 5 off then 1 on the 5 off.... a lot of strains will flower with 14 hours or less. Yes it would save power but there is now way in hell that the plant would veg better with less than a 16 hour day!!! Think about a summer day... The plant can't veg better with less light!

Also you can not reduce your flowering or vegging time! If you are starting from seed your plant matures when it matures, it takes time, yes you can force it but that isn't "better" in any way! A clone has the same genes as the mother so it thinks it's the same age as the mother plant. If you flower a plant from seed too soon you wont have the same harvest as if it were older.
You can't cut down the flower time either! Marijuana is done when it is done, some strains take longer some don't take that long but you can not change that! You can harvest EARLY because you are happy enough with your crop at that point, but you Can Not make it finish faster! You found this and it may seem like new info but it's not, It's bad info that's why no one uses it or talks about it! Not trying to attack you just letting you know this is not something you should try! you will not have a good harvest!

how is cutting the light off 3 hours during the veg cycle a 50% power savings? 12 on 5.5 of 1 on 5.5 off the light is still on for 13 of hours! to properly veg your plants you need at least 16 hours. So how is 3 hours a 50% savings???

Just another gimmick with no actual botanical value. But you will have some say its a 'magical' way to grow bigger plants. Millions of years of evolution is hard to compete with though. Stay away from gimmicks and follow tried and true gardening practices for best success.

Another guy posted about the vegging part a while back and claims that it works great. ALL indoor growing gets away from evolution and you cant improve anything without trial and error. If you non-believers dont like it, good for you, but that dont mean that that method dont work. Just b/c it dont make sense to you, that dont mean it dont work. The flowering part actually mimics the natural cycle of the earth FAR more than a strict 12/12 schedule does. Do the days not get shorter? And does no one notice that your plants do the most growing in the dark? They collect energy during the day and use it at night. Im not saying this method does work, I just HATE seeing so many people with negative opinions on things just cause they dont understand them.

Many seasoned growers have proven this method to be bunk(as far as increasing growth vs energy use) through trial and error...nothing but a gimmick, plain and simple......

How could it possibly save bulb life? on and of on and off is what kills the bulbs and most other electronics! that light cycle has to be hell on ballasts and bulbs... sure you use them 3 hours less per day but the on and off on and off is killing it!

Long story short, saving 3 hours worth of power a day isn't worth it! My power bill is nothing! Just a drop in the bucket compared everything else!

what are you talking about? if you actually knew how to use the 12-1 you wouldnt have came up with such a silly remark..... on a 12-1 schedual you only have your light on for 12 hrs as opposed to 18 or 20 or 24 .. hmmm seems like a saving to me .. and oh ya turning it off and on .. well you normally turn it off and one once a day dont ya? so there isnt any more off and on then when you grow 18/6 or 20/4 ... as for the 1 hour in the middle of the dark time .. you dont have to use your main light ... just a small cfl will be enough .. i use my main t5's on the 12 and a small 24w cfl on the 1 hr cycle. it's really too bad you don't investigate something before you spout off

flimsy? never had that problem, and i've been using it for a long time ... maybe it was stretch that caused the flimsyness not the hrs of light
