Hi, I was wondering if a 1000 watt hps light under a tent in a average bedroom attract flirt?


If so, would venting the heat through the house be better.

Venting won't make a difference on the Flir, but you should be venting anyway.

Especially with just one 1000w system, it's not enough to be concerned about.

Besides, it's completely legal to grow tomatoes wherever you would like to. Without evidence they can't do shit about it.

The things to be careful about would be what you put in your garbage and what can be traced back to you. So be careful about what goes on outside your home to keep them from having any reasonable suspicion that you're growing something other than vegetables.

I've worked with IR systems for a number of years. And the answer is that even if the light was sitting out in the middle of the room (no tent) and no window blinds, it wouldn't be visible from the outside through FLIR with any normal house or apartment. Even window glass will block direct IR emission. The walls and roof will completely block direct IR emission.

What will be visible to an IR camera? The external temperature of your house and any heat being vented to or radiating through to the outside (like hot water pipes inside the wall, attic vents, or running dryer vents). However, one 1,000w light is not going to heat up a house to an extent that it is going to stand out to your neighbors. Venting a 1,000w directly outside... and the venting will be visible but not definitive (someone is not going to absolutely know the venting is from a grow light and not a clothes dryer, portable A/C, or something of the like).

I can't speak for the law enforcement aspect of it, but in my mind/my opinion - unless you are already under suspicion of growing, venting a 1Kw light directly outside isn't likely to get you caught in and of itself (it could be grounds for further investigation but not likely to be grounds for a warrant by itself). But your mileage will vary depending on where you live, the judges where you live, the law enforcement community, and the presence of any task forces working with your local PD. The safest thing to do is vent to an interior room, mix with A/C, and vent out of normal places (like the attic or a dryer vent) and otherwise stay out of trouble and don't tell anyone what you are doing.

Vent it under or into your house, that way it evenely disperses. FLIR can pick up all heat signitures, however, the person behind the scope is only looking for concentrated heat; hot spots, if you will.
As for the "no one will know it's a grow room" thing, police assume the worst, first; remember that. Next step would be them going through your trash for more evidence to prove their theory. Paranoid people do not get caught.

1 1000w light isn't much let alone 2 1000w lights. Its the people with 5 or more 1000w hps lights that should be worried.

If you're pumping it out of your house, they can see it. Remember, these radars aren't always in the air. All they image is heat, if ur pumping heat, they see it as if it were white smoke. If you want to take the risk, by all means go for it. But i'd do it just to know i'm safe and there's no chance of them busting down my door, dragging me out into the street infront of everyone and throwing me in jail.
