I should have said 'had' because the stems were purple at one point. However, are now brown and very healthy plants.

im curious myself. I read on 1 site that a purple tone in the base stem and fan leaf stem is a sign of indica. True or myth? Every one of my pants has atleast 1 purple branch

I know everyone is tired of hearing about books and jorge buuuut....He says purple stems including leaf stems are caused by nute deficiencies I think its usually N.

The whole purple/red stems means its an indica is complete bullshit

Also the certain strain idea could be true to some extent...because certain strains need more or less nutrients...which I think further indicates that it is caused by slight nute deficiencies of some sort.

from what I understand of purpling is, when the rootzone temp are too low, the plant has a hard time uptaking potassium and phosphorus, also PH imbalance will cause the plant not to uptake certain elements.I'm not 100% sure on the stems of a seedling, but I have grown several strains in the same container with the same soil, water and nutes...some purple.. some don't. I would focus more on your top sprouts and their coloration and vigor.

There we go...focusing on the new growth is a good way to tell if you have fixed a problem...

i've got quite a few purple stems on my new seedlings, my temps are never over 80* never under 73...they are only a few days old, and i think i overwatered them to begin with...maybe its just genetics, i've seen plenty of weeds outside growing, that have random purple stems...

most seedlings have purple stems....

The reason why alot of weeds outside have purple stems here and there are because they are growing in soil with barely any nutrients most of the time.

3 things. 1. Purple stalks plagued my conscience with fear when I first started, but they went away once they became of decent, adolescent size. That never stopped me from having very healthy plants. This should not be feared, even if they are purple for a while they'll come around, don't go ripping your plants up! Never kill your plant until it is DONE. Prematurely doing so will haunt your "what if" factor out the ass. I've tended to notice a correlation exists when the plant is contributing a lot of it's energy to root development, throw them on a 24 hour light schedule, and the purple will subside faster. (worked for me) 2. I have no idea what causes red stem, but it happened to me once and was a little harder to shake, if I recall correctly, (dont take this as what happened, I'm not certain) the one with the red stem ended up growing rather stunted. 3. I'm sorry my posts are so long. :(
