6 months of darkness and 6 months of light. How would this be possible for the outdoor grower unless the strain was autoflowering?

Hank.

it wouldn't, you would have to use artificial lights when it's dark, and have some kind of completely lightproof shack while it's light. I'm by no means an expert outdoor grower, but this is the only thing that makes sense to me. Might as well do indoor, or get a shed or barn or something.

I spent over 23 years there.

The light comes and goes like anywhere else. It's just during the solstice thats it stays "light" almost 24 hours, and even this effect is mostly up North. If you are living somewhere like Anchorage or farther south there is daytime and nighttime in every season. Of course the summer season is shorter than most places.

In winter obviously everything is grown indooors... for that matter, almost everything is grown indoors year round, but in the summer there are those who grow it out in the Matanuska Valley and places like that and apparently some of it is super killer (personally I never saw any that I KNEW was grown out there that was really killer, just good homegrown.) Everyone back then used to call their homegrown "Matanuska Thunderfuck", but it was nothing like the legendary stuff.

I have no doubt the they can grow some killer weed out in the valley... they grow record-sized vegetables out there due to the long daylight and fertile soil.

The indoor weed is excellent like in most places I suppose.

When I was younger we used to get killer weed and hash from all over the world up there... kickass weed from Hawaii, Thaisticks, Acapulco gold, elephant bud, black hash from Iran & Afghanistan etc. and lots of Lebanese blond and red hash too. That all changed about 20-25 years ago when they really started to crack down on smuggling and when they changed the laws for possesion.

They also have lots of money up there and therefore lots of money for law enforcement. Tons of cops with the latest equipment and not a lot to do.

But yes, I have seen weed grown outdoors there many times... I have posted before that they used to have a party called "Harvest" every year out in the Mat Valley when things were different. 3 days of bands and weed... they even had signs out on the main road thru town saying "Free Weed" with an arrow pointing towards the party. You had to park a couple miles away and hike in and then everyone got some free hash or weed. They sold mushrooms on the stage and at night I remember them bringing in a 6-8' plant on a motorcycle and leaving it for all to pick off of.

Those were the days in Alaska... they are now gone thanks to the "Moral Majority" and Republicans up there.

ATF and MTF sound like superb strains and I've always been interested in purchasing land in Alaska. It's got the lowest people to square miles ratio of all the states. A nice place to be somewhat secluded from the troubles of city life. I don't know if I could handle the winters, but the summers are wonderful and land is relatively cheap compared to California.

I think you should be able to plant for the summer. But since the summer high temp is around 80 degrees farenheit, you may need a greenhouse for outdoor.

what i want to know is how did that strain die off or get so hard to get? I personally want to try it because it's supposed to taste and smell like grapes or chocolate which so interesting. but if it's supposed to be so legendary...how come people aren't killing to bring it back?

grow in the six months of light, grow inside or move south. A lot of peet moss up yonder.

In the 6 months of darkness, take five or so plants and plant em indoors grow em up for five months or so to be mothers. in the sixth month clone off of the mothers. let them go in dirt cubes not gro dan for three weeks. When weather is top and summer is full and everything isnt frozen, pick a good DIRT spot near water and you should off of five mothers that long get about 200 clones. Make it so that water is running and ya can pipe it in(not to cold get resorvoir and hold to warm), get some gro dan spikes and put one near the base of each plant...plant em when sun is highest you should be able to get a week or two in long sun then eight weeks in degrading sun hours. Visit em and care for them use the runnin water ya piped in ta feed em a 30-10-10 for four weeks once a week, then for the other four feed em 15-52-15 bud formula..ph the water in the resorvoir ya use...stylin

You know the times and dates of when your summers happen, plan for that.

PS Mother plants wont stink.

Get a 450 watt mhs for the mothers......

Alaska pretty private if you put on hill make sure south west......

I am from AK. Hence the ak in my username. Almost everyone I know grows indoors up here all year round. Some take advantage of our long summer light hours and veg outside but our growing season is pretty short anyways. That is the shitty part about having very little outdoor crops because when it gets dry it gets real dry. The last price I was given for an ounce was $400. I told them they could keep that shit. Seeds were ordered the following day. I am sick of the weed situation up here. Hope my girls procuce well. By the way Alaska is very beautiful and the people are some of the nicest in the world. But I would stay away from the interior and farther north come winter. -60 sucks balls.

After 23 years years there, I consider myself a "sourdough", so yea I am from Alaska.

It is a beautiful place to be sure and I miss it greatly. I'm in Oregon now, and it's pretty nice here too... but noone really understands true wilderness around here.

Oregon has a lot to offer too though... everything from mountains to desert and beaches. Last summer I climbed to the rim of Mt. St. Helens and looked in, that was fun.

But Alaska is home... even if it is freezing cold most of the year.
