fungus gnats - Vinegar test

I've been reading about how to get rid of fungus gnats, and one thing I heard is Vinegar. I'm going to doing an experiment with different types of Vinegar to see what works. For my experiment I will be using the following types of vinegar. Apple cider Vinegar, Balsamic vinegar, Sherry vinegar, cabernet vinegar, champagne vinegar, white wine vinegar, distilled white vinegar and just plain apple cider.

Method:
I will poor 1oz of each type in a cup. I will have a control of just water in a cup to see if they were accidental landings. After 3 day I will count the number of gnats in each cup and see if it worked.

If you have any comments or ideas as to how I am/should conduct this please let me know. I would like to get your thoughts on what will get the most gnats?

Sounds like you have a solid scientific plan.

I used goGnats and it killed all the larvae and drove the adults off or killed them.

I am interested to see if trapping them will work well too.

Best of luck.

i would have but I got the killing soap by Safer, because of a misdiagnosis. My bad. I have sense done my homework, as I should have from the start, and found out that they were gnats. If this method doesn't work I will go to garlic and coffee. Then to the goGnats as a last ditch effort. I have one in flowering so I want to keep chemicals away as long as I can.

so I think I have new insight as to why vinegar works to get rid of Gnats. I started this yeasterday, and I have no gnats in my room anymore. My theory is because of the smell. My entire room stinks like vinegar! Sherry wine vinegar is still in the lead with 15 gnats.

I've used Apple cider vinegar this past couple weeks on them (weren't in grow room but have been hanging out in kitchen and other rooms. Poured some in a few glasses and put a few drops of dish soap in each, takes a few days to start working depending on the area I guess but it has worked 95%. Have not seen any gnats today or yesterday that I can remember, but do know apple cider vinegar works.

I mixed cider vinager and honey it worked ok. I put screen in the bottom of my pots then a inch of perolite on top of the screen the gnats were going in the bottom of the pots covered the top with sand and mixed in beneficial nemetodes to all my soil. I didnt see a gnat after a week of doing this.. I tried everything else and it just slowed them down before the beneficial nemetodes killed them off
