I wanted to make a journal more to track growth and see potential problems hopefully before they get out of control. I have grown before but only with a couple of smaller scale experiments. I have used some of this equiptment before, but not with vegetable plants. Anyways, as for some background All of the plants were started in the 1.5" rockwool cubes in a 1020 tray + Humidome, and put under a pair of 42W (actual - 2700K color) CFLs. I planted various types of peppers, eggplants, watermelon, and tomatoes. I'm using FoxFarm grow big is my nute of choice for the veg stage, however I also have CaMg+ and a number of other additives around in case of a deficiency. I will most likely be flowering with FoxFarm as well.

A little bit about the space.... Currently using a 600W HPS Eye Hortilux Bulb, which is reflected by a simple "batwing" style reflector. This is an overview shot of my indoor growing area. Fresh air is pulled in from a vent in the attic using an 8" Ecoplus Inline Blower. You can also see a pair of soil cucumbers in the black buckets in the back, and also a Cayenne Pepper in soil. The cayenne is over a year old, but had a rough summer with high heat and a lack of adequate irrigation.

DWC / Drip Ring bucket with a single tomato. I the type is an organic hybrid tomato, I have to check the seed pack for exact name. This one is about 4 weeks old. Water is at 6.0pH and 700ppm. This Tomato is the fastest growing plant under the light.

This is my recirculating 2x2' flood table, I just use a 5 gallon bucket as my reservoir, and a small pump to flood the tray. Right now the tray is flooding 24/7 about half way up the slabs. This is my first Attempt at using slabs, and I think they will work out great. The larger plants are starting to dry up their cubes much more quickly now. Most of these plans are various kinds of organic peppers, and a few eggplants of a chinese variety. I have been using a pH of 6.0 and for this week I am using 700ppm. I have a mix of Cool White / Warm White CFLs above it that I run longer than the grow light to save money on electricity while keeping the day longer for my plants.

Here is an eggplant was transplanted successfully from hydro to dirt, this should be its 2nd week since the transplant. Not sure on the variety of this eggplant.

Here are some plants from the front side of my house, These happen to be tropical fruit trees that live in a greenhouse during the winter months.

The Two trees are the right are Lychee trees, one of which is just a larger variety than the other. The plant of the far left is a Longan Tree, which very similar to the Lychees, but with a longer leaf.

Here are a pair of Papaya Trees that grew out of some compost that I made, they ended up growing to together so I left them together. The plant on the left is the smaller/weaker plant by far, eventually it may just be a wast of space.

Behind the papaya you can see my young Blueberry bush, Agave, and Elephant Ear.

After months and months, I have decided to update this post with my garden. More or less this learning hydroponics in general, and these plants were started in october and have continued to make it for about 7 months. Varieties in images, Ferry Morse Early Jalapeno, Seeds of Change Hungarian Hotwax, Ferry Morse Cali Wonder Bells. Growing DWC 100gal/hr pump in Grodan Slabs. Using Foxfarm Nutrients. PH 5.9-6.4. EC: 900-1000PPM. Images are attached of my jalapenos, Hungarian Hot Wax, and Bells. I have collected a single harvest off of these plants which has provided enough jalapenos for my girlfriend and I. 4x jalapeno, 3x bell, 2x hungarian hotwax.

I have also finally produced a hybrid between my jalapenos and my hotwaxes, which I plan to plant the seeds from. After 8 generations I SHOULD have stable genetics for this cross. I may also cross with Cayenne peppers in order to increase productivity as well as increase the heat of these peppers. Attatched an image of the hybrid.

Jalapenos: 1,000-8,000 scoville units
Hotwax: 1,000-15,000 scoville units
Cayenne: 30,000-50,000 scoville units20130418_174207.jpg
