I've got a DIY bake-around cool tube. Here's a picture of it in it's current configuration:

I also just took some pictures of how I use iy in a DIY horizontal hood:

I use 4" PCV couplings to mount the Bake-Around. The BA doesn't quite fit in the 4" coupling, so I wrapped some foam weather stripping around the end and it fit's snuggly. You can see the black foam at the top of the first picture.

In this picture you can see how I mount the Mogul base to the coupling with a metal elbow:

The other end is connected to a 4" PCV elbow and then to a 80 cfm computer fan:

This all keeps the tube cool enough for me to easily grab and hold on to the tube. This is only a 250 watt light, though:

you may find a pvc bushing that will bring you down to that size or check hobby lobby for the right size tube

dystppia, if you look at your first and last pic you can see a gap between the glass and pvc. how is it attached? and is it airtight? lemme know because if you look at my pic above its the same.

Yeah, the glass doesn't fit. I can't take the glass out to show you right now 'cause they just went to sleep. But what i did was to wrap some 3/8" weather stripping - the foam kind that's sticky on one side - around the ends of the tube. You can see the black strip around the end of the tube in the first and last picture.

This allows the tube to fit securly and air-tight in the couplings, and also allows you to easily remove the glass to change the bulb or clean.

i drilled out the two rivets and used a hose clamp ,also i cut a strip of cork gasket material to protect the glass . it will try and fall apart after the rivets are drilled out thats why i use metal tape first
